I cant even get a answer whether you should publically or privately warn and/or ban people !

Oh, you'll get the answer alright, it may not be the one you want.  Qualifications, there are none.

I have been visiting a lot of the other boards since the heat got so bad on this one.  And I can honestly say, across the board, moderators act (say) just as bad or worse than anything I have ever seen here on this board.  They want to voice their opinions (such as Gabe, and I like Gabe) and then some have a tighter rein like bigdog.  Don't want to get personal about any of them cause I don't know them but all moderators are different and my opinion would be assign the same moderators to the same boards.

There definitely is not any room for name calling or threats on any forum.  Professional sports team bashing is allowed and college team bashing is allowed but high school team bashing and school administrators bashing is not??  How do you define bashing?  What is considered bashing by me is not by certain moderators and vice versa.  I think the Nederland Bond thread has had SEVERAL violations of the forum rules and it goes for days and doesn't get locked.

JohnnyT and 3ABirdman should give more input, they are softball people.

I give my opinion because I can still have one even though I'm a moderator. If another moderator doesn't like my post, feel free to delete it and send me a warning too. I've been paid by a newspaper to have an opinion for about 10 years now so I like giving my opinion and I like being knowing I am the one who said it, thus the reason for putting my name as my name. #13 you're good cause 13 is my favorite number LOL

I agree with 13 and you too Gabe ! But as you stated Quote "feel free to delete it and send me a warning " I agree 100%! but I disagree with starting a thread about it.

Welcome to the Southeast Texas Sports (SETXsports) Forum

We have a few rules that we will ask you to follow:

1) YOU MUST HAVE A VALID E-MAIL ADDRESS PRESENT IN YOUR PROFILE!

If we see that you have removed your e-mail - your account will deleted with no hesitation!

2) ONE membership per person! Any caught with 2 accounts will have both of them terminated. Nor will we tolerate any member impersonating other members. If you have, for whatever reason created another account (or 2), don't panic. Just inform an administrator of the duplicates with usernames used and we'll take care of it.

3) THIS BOARD IS RATED "G"! Watch the language! Remember that there are members of all ages reading these forums. If there is any doubt in your mind whether a word may be objectionable ... find another word. Obscenity and profanity are good ways to get you banned.

4) Keep it civil! You can make your point much more attractive to others by remaining calm and intelligent. You will be banned for flaming or attacking another member!! We will not tolerate abuse upon another member.

5) We DO expect you to report any violations of these rules. This helps us keep this board a nice place to hang out. Use the pm button to send a message to any administrator or moderator to tip us off to any objectionable behavior or profanity/obscenity. We consider this to be every members' obligation as a member of SETXsports board.

6) NO SHOUTING!!- (Use of "Caps Lock") The standard practice on most message boards, forums, emails, web pages, etc. is that the use of all caps is regarded as SHOUTING!!

7) No abusive or offensive usernames. If you choose a username that is deemed to be offensive the membership will be terminated.

8 ) Do not make racial or abusive comments

9) Keep to the subject. Post to the section that is most appropriate for the topic being presented.

10) Observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material. If the material belongs to someone else, credit the original author. Do not post material where you do not have permission to distribute it electronically or otherwise.

11) No pornography/nudity or anything else illegal or of sexual nature.

12) Avatars are allowed in signatures. Please keep these in good taste. Failure to comply to this can result in a permanent ban from the site.

13) No spamming or flooding the forums. Use the pm feature when needed

14)NO ADVERTISING in the forums!!!

15) Please do not post unsubstantiated rumors, suspiscions or slanderous comments about anyone - this includes non-members of the forums.

16) We do not allow or tolerate any references or encouragement to using drugs, or any posts that encourage the abuse of alcohol!! Those posts will be removed and you could be banned. Continued posting of this nature will result in your account being deleted.

17) The admins and moderators here are volunteers. They dedicate a portion of their time to helping us with the forums. No abuse or disrespect of any of the admins or moderators will be tolerated.

18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. This includes issues involving their personal lives, coaching/playing style or performance, past experiences, etc.

Just because you have an opinion about something is it considered bashing.   I'd like to know the definition of bashing myself.

So that give's the moderator the right to abuse or disrespect other members.

I am glad you weighed in Gabe.  I have read, with amusement a lot of your stuff.  AggiesAreWe and Lazeek, same.  I don't always agree with you but you have your right to your opinion and of couse these are forums based on opinions back up by facts most of the time.  Seems like on the male dominated sports forums more is tolerated.

Sometimes on this board it gets too personal and that could be because eveyone knows each other probably more than any other forum on your site.

About the rule #17 adminbabe,  I have seen moderators abuse and disrespect posters on several occasions.  More disrespect than abuse

I'm going to throw my opinion into the hat here as well.  You all might recognize me from other forums, but i'm not active in the softball forum at all, as i know nobody who plays the game, and have no reason to be involved with it.  that being said, i'm not a moderator that comes on here and interferes with what is, in my opinion, the most contentious forum on the site.  i don't at all envy the moderators that do in fact have a legitimate reason to spend any amount of time in this particular forum, as they take more heat than probably anyone else involved with the site.  but back to being a moderator...

the qualifications for being a moderator may not be set in stone, but the requirements of a moderator are.  by taking the position, we've agreed to, as best as we can, help uphold the rules that have been set by the site owner.  we're given the power to delete and edit posts, as well as to ban users who continually break the rules of the site.  different moderators have different styles, and what upsets one might not bother another (not unlike an umpire in a softball game).  it is a payless, and often thankless job, but we do it because we love the site, and want to do our best to uphold it's integrity.  For posters who insist on breaking rules, they will eventually draw the attention of a moderator, who will then handle the situation as they see fit.  we're doing what the owner of the site would do if he had the time to read the thousands of posts made each day on here.  to berate us for that, as a FEW posters like to do, is pretty pointless, and will only draw even more attention from us, the dastardly moderators.  so, enjoy the site, follow the rules, and keep on posting!

Would you say what you wrote in front of the people that's invovled in the message? If so, type away. If not, don't post it.

That's a good point.      What about difference of opinion between posters and/or moderator that are posting to each other

Glad to see all you guys joining forces ! LOL Just kidding by the way ! I dont think anyone disagrees with what you guys have to say and that most of us have overstepped the bounds.

My point earlier in the day was if you have to warn or ban someone, Do you start a thread about it publically or do it in a PM ? If done as a thread isnt that breaking the same rules you are trying to get people to abide by ?

the moderator should take it behind close doors ie PM. if it's a forum rule question. If it's about sports the moderator has every right to voice his or her opinion.
