the team to beat in the 09-10 season

Recommended Posts

Yep Dickie that was the question...Who will it be...but dont say Ozen..you know better!!! Them days are done...the 36-0 teams the regional finalists, year in and out ...The horses are not like they used to be, still good but, the magnet isnt drawing em in like it used to....that music magnet and fine arts magnet has slowly lost its edge..maybe the players are over at the medical magnet??? Now if you say its my boys over at Memorial, now youve figured it out...only lost two from last year...who else should be decent???

Memorial WILL be the best 5A in the area...(of the TWO!!  :D) But they will be VERY good...in 4A, I really can't call it in SE Texas, but Houston Yates will be hard to beat again...3A.... Not HJ, and Not Silsbee!! Thats all I have to say about that!! :D.....No, really, they will both be good again.

No, they went THREE rounds in the playoffs with a team that has the district MVP returning and several key players from that team back as well... ::)

A team that is going to surpise people is the Barbers Hill Eagles. They have a group of kids that are currently playing and will do about 30 games before the season together. Not like last year seniors this group was strong when they were younger and are now brought to gether as one.

They have already defeted several AAU teams from around Houston and qualified for National in Dallas in July.

They will be lead this year be several returning players including Jake Miller, Austin Crawley, Daniel Mitchell, Mitchell Hopper and Carson Asbury. Most teams will under estate these guys.

In 2A the winner out of Region 3 between Sabine and New Waverly wins state.

Sabine have everyone back?

Top 3 (Jackson, Kirk, Byrd) players are back along with whole bench that actually played. They will be better than last year!

So will Kountze:)

Spurger could very easily represent region 3 in Austin next season. They were young this year but really matured as the season went on.They will have a very good inside out game with Whittacre and Blankenship and a very capable PG in McGallion if he stays healty. In 3-a you goota like Cleveland. They have a good young BIG in the paint and perimeter players everywhere you look.

    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
    • SEC fan bases before Texas got there: “The horns aren’t ready for this. Every week is a battle.” SEC fan bases after Texas arrived: “Texas has the easiest SEC schedule ever!” SEC fan bases after every one of their teams has lost to one or more SEC teams from the bottom half of the standings, many of whom Texas beat comfortably: 🤐
    • With a big win against the rival to close out the year… look to see Lamar make the playoffs next year
