Guest abovetherim Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 There's a unique Lamar University angle to the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals between the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic. Each team has a star player — Boston's Kendrick Perkins, Orlando's Rashard Lewis — who is the son of a former LU player who was part of a Cardinal team that won in the NCAA tournament. Perkins' dad Kenneth, who is in Lamar's all-time top 10 in seven statistical categories, played for Pat Foster teams that beat Missouri and Alabama in the 1981 and 1983 NCAAs, respectively. Lewis' father Ki started on the Billy Tubbs outfit that scored Lamar's first-ever NCAA win against Detroit in 1979. Both of the sons, of course, jumped to the NBA from high school . http://www.panews.com/sportsbobwest/local_story_129202335.html
Guest DickVitale Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Great PARAGRAPH by Bob West.... :....I remember how hurt Rashard was when Rudy T and co. basically lied to him in saying the would take him in the draft back in 98. At Elsik he eas a pure post player and had to work on his face up game...He could always shoot it, but just got better as a wing player over the years...Rockets are wishing they had him now!
badndn Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 When did Perkins become a "Star" player??? Love the way Bob embelishes.
Bucof2010 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 I think he meant a star to their respective teams.

In high schol he was able to do pretty much whatever he wanted. He played a majority of the time in a typical back to basket post up game, but would go outside and shoot the three quite often as well as scoring a lot of points intransition.
Guest mffl Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Rashard Lewis was a 2nd round pack... what a steal!
Guest coachacola Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 The Rockets were in a "win now" mindset back then and didn't want to wait for Lewis to develop into a quality player. In hindsight that was a bad decision because they kept getting worse and worse and didn't have any good young players to build a team around.
Guest abovetherim Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 When did Perkins become a "Star" player??? Love the way Bob embelishes. I'd say averaging a double-double in the playoffs makes him a "star player" for the Celtics.
badndn Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Ask anyone outside of Boston or the Golden triangle to name the 5 starters for the Celtics: Peirce Allen Garnett Rondo and that other guy...Big Babby, yeah Davis! He has done a good job as the fifth opetion and is amking aniche for himself as a good rebounder and decent defender, but not a STAR!
