Looks like there are several coming up.  If your taking an all-star team, best to stick with "all-star" tourneys unless you think you have a team that can compete with the select teams...I'll never forget our 6U all-star team getting trounced by a Deer Park select team way back when...I just had no idea how things worked, lol.

Thanks for the help. Yea the all star thing would get us killed. Was hoping maybe around fall or next spring putting something together. Just trying to get a feel for what is out there and the interest from kids and parents.

I never really understood having "select" 6U and 8U teams. You are missing a very vital piece of the puzzle at that age.......pitching.

On the other hand, pitting your team up against better competition may help the coaches learn what the team needs to work on. Might and probably will get pounded a few times, but if the coaches, parents and players are committed enough, you are bound to improve.  I wonder at that age who has the hardest time dealing with getting pounded in a game, the adults or the kids? I think the kids, with their short attention spans, will go back to eating grass, digging holes, etc. long before the parents get back into their routine. The kids are just waiting to do what they are told to do next........enjoy those days!

I think I was the best "Coach Pitcher" ever  :)  I had an absolute blast coaching 6-8Ub select ball.

Here's some of what I learned from coaching 6-8U select ball:

-As a coach pitcher, pitch fast with very little arc...helps batters get ready for live pitch.

- It hurts to get hit by a hit ball, even a "squishy" ball, ha

-6-8U weeds out parents/players who will never be ready for real tourney ball at an older level

-Some parents want their kids to be softball players, regardless of whether the kid wants it

-Umpires, especially at the lower age levels, are human and make mistakes, just like real people...get over it

-Seeing  a young girl learning, improving and developing a love for the game due, even in small part, to you is PRICELESS

That is the biggest mistake I saw from the 6U and 8U coaches in our league. Maybe the other way gets them ready for The Highlands slow pitch league that #13 spoke so highly of.  :)  I don't care if it is getting you ready for live pitch or not, it's just easier for anybody to hit it on a line as opposed to an arc.

For me, the same holds true at ANY age and at ANY skill level!  Isn't that why we, as adults, do it?  ;D

Kudos to HillGuy for making that point  !

Enjoy those young years, because when they get around 14 , they get a little out of it. Trying to find them selves. Some find other interest, boys, and some just stay lost for a while. Then around 16 the ones who really love the game pick it up a notch, and it becomes fun again. LOL for the kid, coach and parent.

I am interested in getting my daughter on a select 6u team. I don't know of any in our area. We live in Baytown. My son plays select baseball and our world revolves around that but my daughter is ready to play and we don't want to wait until the regular softball season to start play.

Our daughter would love to play 6U select softball.  I wish somebody would organize a team!  Our sons played in tournaments at that age, and those were the best memories ever!  Why not the girls too????
