AggiesAreWe Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Silsbee senior Chastity Foster and junior Jeremy Johnson leaped their way to Austin this weekend at the regional meet. Foster is headed back Austin to try and defend her state titles in the long jump and triple jump. She won the regional with leaps of '18 "6.25 in the long and '39 "1.75 in the triple. Her best leaps this year are '19 "1 in the long and '40 "6.25 in the triple. Chastity will be the favorite to win both state titles. Jeremy won the regional championship in the long jump with a leap of '23 "10 which outdistanced the second place jumper by over "14 inches. His leap was a foot longer than his jump in district. His regional jump is the longest of all the state qualifiers headed to Austin in class 3A. Johnson looks to be the favorite to capture his first state title. Jeremy has a '24 foot jump in him, let's hope it's waiting to happen in Austin. Good luck to these Tiger leapers!!!!
Kris_Gilmore Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 I wouldn't call him the favorite just yet. Region I still has yet to compete, and a kid in Region IV just jumped 24 ft. 6 in., but good luck to Jeremy. Good luck to both of them! Represent SETX! Long jump – 1, Adam Hebert, Poteet, 24-6 (new meet record, old record 24-4.5, James Lott, Refugio, 1983); 2, Isaiah Glover, Cuero, 23-1.75; 3, Jamarious Callies, Edna, 22-4.75; 4, Brent Johnson, Cuero, 21-4; 5, Woodard, Sweeny, 21-1; 6, Logan Hernandez, West Columbia, 20-8.5. James Lott from Refugio was a beast. He also jumped 7 ft. 4 in back in '83.
Baller3 Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Saw news report on Ch. 12 about Chastity Foster. It's a shame that such a talented jumper was injured running a relay at regionals. Coaches when you have an elite athlete in the field events you must be very careful how you utilize them on the track!! Key word is elite she is not just good she is an elite jumper. Good Luck with rehab and hopefully she can recover in time for state.(Hamstring)
