BLUEDOVE3 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Pastner says, "If there is a kid who can play and chew gum, we know about him … and that's globally," and he's only half kidding. This late in the game it is near impossible to find good talent that hasn't already been gobbled up. And while Pastner is not known for sitting idly by -- he finished college in 2½ years and graduate school in 1½ -- he also isn't about to just sign players for the sake of signing them. He will employ prudence if not all-out patience. =========================================================== So I guess Pastner (Memphis State)is saying all unsigned Southeast Texas players (HJ ..HINT...HINT) may need to tryout or go NAIA.

Yes, that all sounds like it has a lot of depth, intelligence, and wisdom. However, since the coach has not been a D-1 head coach yet, perhaps you should give him a little time before drinking his kool aid. We were all told that another former Memphis assistant and current local coach was one of the great recruiters of all time but his local record has yet to reflect that. In two or three years both Pastner and the local guy will probably be beating the door down at a 3-A school just outside of Beaumont on I-10 because of the championship status.

Guest DickVitale Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Josh spent six years at Arizona and one at Memphis.....Funny story...He was supposed to go as a package deal with Stephen Jackson to Arizona out of high school, but Stevie never went, but they still took Pastner...He never played, but has a NCAA championship ring (1997) as a player out of the deal, and that launched his coaching career there...He made the most of that opportunity, thats for sure.

Kenyon is a good friend of Josh and I love him as a coach...........however bluedove comes on here and takes a shot at HJ as usual........uses an incorrect school name when he talks about the coach. So I am busting his balls. I love Josh and think he will be great.

The closest HJ players come to big-time basketball is when the NCAA Finals are on their tv sets at home, and you better hope it's not a stormy day.

We've already discussed why Lamar looked good against Duke several months ago. Duke took Lamar lightly. Duke's intensity level was totally different against (Kansas?) in their next game. Thats the way competition is: You play weaker opponents and stronger teams have a tendency to let the weaker teams "hang around." Duke stepped up the 2nd half and you saw the difference. lamar was just happy to be on the floor with Duke that night. :)
Lazeek Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Dove you are as bad as DV..................if that had been Perkins having a great game against Duke then we have been required to bow down to the almighty Perk then, but because it is a hick from a small school there is no credit given!!!!!!!! ;D ;D
Guest DickVitale Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Somehow I get pulled in again!! 8) All the way from HOUSTON!!! 8)

In fact the switched 3 defenders on him after Chris Carawell(great duke defender) had trouble with him. Still big time whether you want to admit it or not. I love how you avoided commenting on the fact that I knew Cal was taking the job.

It was avoided because Dove has an unwritten rule that he NEVER gives credit to HJ players, alums, and supporters under any circumstance. I am still trying, however, to figure out how someone who lives in Hamshire condescendingly suggests that people in Sour Lake are country bumpkins.
