Guest coachacola Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 It may seem a bit counterintuitive that Jim Gilligan was more concerned about how the Cardinals of Lamar University looked than what seed they would ultimately earn in the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament. The higher the seed, the better, right? Not always. "That's not something I'm too worried about right now," Gilligan said before LU earned the No. 4 spot in the eight-team bracket. "In this league it doesn't really matter. It's going to be about matchups. How do you match up against a certain team? And how are you playing?" It's who's going to get hot," said Cardinals left fielder Tyler Link before the final regular season series with Stephen F. Austin. It appears the Cardinals are plenty warm and facing a potentially favorable matchup with No. 5 Texas-Arlington tonight at 7 at Whataburger Field. The Cardinals have won their previous five opening-round games and last won the event in 2004. Lamar has also won 12 of 15 games since April 22, and has taken two out of three games in its last three series, including one versus UTA earlier this month. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/local/seeding_not_all_that_matters_for_lu_baseball_at_southland_tourney_05-19-2009.html
