Guest coachacola Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I guess the Beaumont Enterprise heard our pleas for an update: No heavy equipment has yet descended upon Provost Umphrey Stadium. The projected start date for Lamar University to begin the massive renovation of its football complex in anticipation of its first football season since 1989 has come and gone. The project was set to begin on Monday. As of Tuesday, Lamar athletics director Billy Tubbs said financing for the project is still clearing hurdles. "Actually, we have a bond before our board of regents," Tubbs said. "The bond will be put up for sale this week or maybe next week." The project was estimated by contractors to take 13-14 months to complete, excluding weather delays. The Cardinals first game at Umphrey Stadium is scheduled for Sept 11, 2010. It is approximately 14 1/2 months until LU is supposed to take the new field. The school has five home games scheduled, but has not yet begun to build a place to call home. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/lamar_football_renovation_project_still_on_hold_06-02-2009.html
AJ25 Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 it won't be ready in time. looks like lamar's opening season schedule will probably change..
AJ25 Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 but like i said before.. i would rather that than halfway finish the stadium and have to spend more money later. they need to do, and i think they are, the turf first. that way they have a place to practice..
