Do you guys think we can compair jv & freshman games of the past to predict the winner of the teams when the reach varsity? For instance say a team's jv team won district, is it a good sign they will win district when they are varsity players. If so which teams have been doing well in recent years when it comes to jv and freshman teams?

You can surely judge your talent coming up the pipe, but to me, varsity is a whole 'nother animal.

Kids mature at different rates so it is very hard to tell for sure that a great freshman team will not get caught up to by competition that they dominate as 9th graders.

But mentally it does give you an edge to know that you have beaten a team of kids as Fresh and JV going into a varsity season, just don't let it go to your heads.

No, not always.  If a team has a weak Sr. class there may be a bunch of Soph. on varsity.  Those soph. would have been the stud players on the JV, leaving a void on the JV team.

I have seen 9th grade teams win district, then 3 years later as seniors come-in 4th with the same kids. There are a number of factors. The other teams kids have gotten bigger and faster. Districts add and subtract schools. Sometimes desire changes with these kids. If there is a coaching change, there maybe a change on the field.

when it comes to district 20 4a who has been doing best with the under classmen as of late?

I've seen in past years where L-Town JV and or 9th Grade would be one of the best teams in district only to crash and burn once they reached Varsity, of course those were Fuller days too, you know how that was..............pass, pass, pass, punt.

Some JV teams are all Soph. and the really good sophomores are on Varsity.

It may be a little indication of the talent coming up, but I think Freshman team would be a better indicator than a JV team. JV team is effected more by underclassman playing on Varsity. Not many freshman get to play varsity.

I really don't think it matters much anymore - mainly because the UIL has made it to where almost all your district teams make the playoffs anyway...@ least in 4A & 5A!  In reference to the lower classes, every post I've seen is correct....your good sophs will be moved up to Varsity and once you split up the players it could go either way.  From past experience and observations, never assume the varsity will be or could be as good the sub-varsity's prior years' record / performance - 10-0 can go to 0-10 quick!!! :-\

No way. There are teams that do good at the JV or Freshman level that do not win at varsity level and vice versa. Talent can be seen but not the way a team plays when they reach Friday nights.

The Bridge City 2009 Class went 8-2 thier Sophomore Year on JV, Second in District, Then the next year went 0-10 on Varsity, But they came back and got an even 4-4 Record thier Senior Year....I would base how good a group will be on thier Freshman Team Record..Because the really good Sophomores will be on Varsity the following year and the other ones will be on JV and they just won't be the same without thier leaders.....

And you never know who will decide to focus on basketball or baseball by the time they are upperclassmen either...
