Dave Campbell district predictions (Colt McCoy on cover)

Recommended Posts

Lions asked "Has Vidor ever been picked to win District before?"

In 1964 DCTF picked Vidor to win district and preseason # 10 in AAA.  I think they made it to the semifinal that year.  I remember this because Little Cypress played Vidor the first game of the season that year.   The Bears were ranked #2 in AA by DCTF.  Vidor kicked our tails.

Sorry, but Vidor has never made it to the semifinals in the modern era. They did make it to the third round in 64, but apparently lost ther game on penetrations after the game ended in a 21-21 tie with San Marcos. Vidor was undefeated that season and finished 12-0-1. That game was considered to be the semifinals, only because 16 teams made it to the postseason. In reality it was the third round by todays standards. KUDOS to Vidor though, I never knew they had an undefeated season.

Particularly since we will have our secret weapon there. ;)

One of the bigger news involves this person:

For one special night in Tiger Stadium!

WOS fans, be prepared. Wink

Michael do you think this is the year?

I'm not Michael (remember "I'm Not Lisa?") but here's my take on the 2009 season.  We have a very talented Jeremy Johnson at QB but I'm not sure we have the hosses to go with him.  I hope we do.  I hope it's Silsbee that hands the Mustangs their first district loss is class 3-A.  It will be another interesting season in District 21-2A.

18-3A

Offensive: RB Marcel Johnson (Rusk)

Defensive: DL Deshun Williams (Carthage)

Key Game: Rusk @ Diboll

1. Carthage

2. Rusk

3. Jasper

4. Diboll

5. Center

6. Huntington

I'm quite surprised at the picks for 2 - 4. Rusk made strides. But, I wouldn't have put them at #2. Jasper has some starters returning. But, they weren't key personnel. Plus, we have a new coach. I don't think I would have put us in the Top 3. And, will Diboll have that much of a drop-off? And, I wouldn't count out Center. It will be interesting...

Everyone agree with this Prediction from Dave Campbell?

1. Kirby (No. 4)

2. Newton (No. 10)

3. Woodville

4. Hemphill

5. San Augustine

6. Shelbyville

I don't agree with it I just don't think Kirbyville has enough offense to play with newton this year. Newton is going to have too much talent in the skilled positons and there defense is gonna be alot better this season. But I don't look to hardd into these predictions it only matters what happens on the field. They pick these winners based on last season anyway.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine 50th-Anniversity edition is now on local bookshelves, and it's obvious, East Texas could be headed for multiple state champions again this season.

Longview, a state finalist in 2008 is ranked #1 in Class 4-A.

Gilmer is #1 in Class 3-A with defending champion Carthage ranked second.

Another defending champion, Daingerfield is ranked #1 in Class 2-A, with Arp #2, and Paul Pewitt 9th.

And Cayuga, a state finalist in 2008, is the pre-season #1 team in Class 1-A.

I don't have a problem with the predictions.  Didin't they have Kirbyville going to the title game last yr?  It's not the offense that I would be worried about.  They have more holes on D but alot of young guys got plenty of playing time last year, yet weren't starters....it's just too close to call at this point.
