You wanna bet?....Nederland, PNG, will NEVER win 20-4A as it is set up in basketball....NEVER...Ozen will dominate, and in down years I would pick Livingston or Central....As for PNG?...Not even in the playoff discussion...No foot in the mouth here, thats just facts..

Where to begin on this?  First off I'm not a Bulldog fan, so my view is not slanted at all towards Ned.  But they have the best inside duo coming back in the district with Donte Foney and Kelvin Smith, and its the best by a healthy margin.  And they're only going to be juniors.  Second, they have several others coming back from varsity that logged significant minutes.  Third, their junior varsity beat every team in the district last year at least once, including your untouchables Central and Ozen.  Also, didn't Nederland beat Central's varsity last year as well?  Pretty sure they did.  Like I said earlier, I'd love to be wrong on this, but I don't think I am.  I think they'll be the best team in the district next season.

Ozen lost some really big parts to their team last year, including the hoss in the middle, and arguably their best guard (by their own fan's admissions).  We'll see how good Franks is this season without the big man in the middle to control the game on defense.  And thats if he comes back to Ozen.

Central will be tough.  They always are.  But I just think Nederland has more coming back.  And the ones comiing back are very good.  Now that I've said my peace, I need to go take a shower because I feel dirty talking up the Bulldogs so much.

Nederland is STILL Nederland...They will NEVER win district 20-4A in basketball...I am not ROOTING for anyone, I just know that as long asd Ozen, Central and Livingston are in this district, Nederland, PNG, and LCM and liitle to no shot at EVER winning district...Its just common knowledge, nothing personal.

Be careful with that word "NEVER", it can come back to haunt you.  ;)

How about "chances are" they will not win district 20-4A as long as those teams are in it? Nederland has NEVER won a district title in basketball have they? They wont next season either....Chances are... ;)

6'7"? Yeah right! That kid MIGHT be 6'4 and thats pushing it!! Forney will be a force to be reckoned with BUT, he is a FOOTBALL player, playing basketball, so chances are, he probably will not reach his FULL basketball potential.....Nederland, in all likelyhood will be a playoff team again next season..Thats about as far as it goes....Coach English has done a great job at his alma mater...District champs? Don't bet on it..

I don't know about that dick, Nederland has been playing very well in summer tournaments. Dionte and Kelvin have been dominating every game while there guards have been playing very well behind them. They still have some unproven players but the ability and skill is there to win district.

Ozen and Central are still the teams to beat.  :)

Dickie, I would have to disagree with you on the football thing hurtin Forney.  I've watched him develop athletically and it's coming from the weight room.  There have been several great basketball players that were made better by playing football.  Forney has also developed a bit of a killer instinct on the boards, please don't tell me football isn't helping with that.  I just think that's a severely incorrect statement.

It's not obvious to me Dickie, and as you say it's okay to disagree.  I'm telling you that I don't think Forney would be the basketball player he is right now without getting what football brings to the athlete.  That's my opinion, I think it's fact.  Go ask AI if he would've been the tough sob he turned out to be on the court without being an all-state QB... It may not be true for every player, football could break some, but for the ones who play both, they are better for it.

I guess it depends on the athlete and posistion he plays........Did anyone watch the two Arp trips to the state tourney in the last few years..Cedric Johnson was all world as a sophmore and as a senior made very little difference. He was bigger and stronger his senior trip but his basketball skills weren't the same....I think he got a scholarship for football(forgot where)....

I think the whole district will be taking a step backwards.  Livingston loses pretty much everything, Ozen loses almost everything especially with Franks gone (from what I hear), PN-G loses Weathersby, Central loses Gulley, and Nederland is losing FOUR starters.  LCM is the only team in my opinion that should be significantly better.

Who's gonna win the district?  In the past the road to the title went through Lincoln, but now it goes through Beaumont Ozen and until someone knocks them off, that's just how it is.  I will agree the Dionte Forney can play, but I don't even remember this Smith kid.  Nothing against him, I just don't remember ever noticing him play.  Also, I feel that Nederland's guard play will be a bit of a weak point.  That will hurt against the teams that play pressure defense.

I think it will be Ozen and Central at 1-2 and then Nederland, LCM, and PNG battling out for the other two spots.  I guess we'll see.

To ever be able to claim district you have to prove you can beat Ozen until that happens , I will pick them.  However Nederland tied for 2nd this past season they didn't need the 4th spot to make the playoffs as you stated would be the only way they would make it earlier.  Nederland will be better this year than last.  Are they ready to compete with Ozen?  Only time will tell.  Forney would be better if he only played basketball if for no other reason than he has to do football workouts to include squats during basketball season whether he has a game or not.  That takes it's toll.
