HJ2012 Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Looks like a tough pool for HJ. Don't know anything about Palestine, but Abilene Wylie & Navasota should be pretty tough.

KFDM COOP Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 Anahuac loses close at state tourney From sports staff reports Baytown Sun Published July 10, 2009 COLLEGE STATION – Anahuac’s 7-on-7 football team pushed one of the state’s top teams to overtime before losing Thursday at the Fox Sports Southwest state tournament. It turned out the 35-34 setback to Brownwood, a semifinalist in this tournament a year ago, was the first of three close losses suffered by the Panthers in pool play Thursday. Anahuac will play Lorena at 8 a.m. today in the start of the 32-team single elimination Small School (Class A-3A) tournament. Brownwood, which won in overtime when it stopped an extra point by Anahuac and made one of its own, went 3-0 to win the pool. Anahuac, making its first appearance in the state tournament at Texas A&M, went 0-3, coming up a total of 11 points short. Those included a 21-14 loss to McGregor and a 26-23 setback to Rice Consolidated. “Everything was close,†said Anahuac coach Michael Broussard. “It was our kids’ first time to play in a tournament like this. We just came out here to play ball.†Zach Smith led the Anahuac offense and Trevante Thomas topped the defense, getting a pair of interceptions. Justin Albritton, Cameron Mitchell, Cody Johnson and Wyatt Raymond caught touchdown passes from quarterback Braxton Mayes and Mitchell also had an interception. “They played hard, but probably our biggest downfield threat was playing quarterback,†Broussard said, alluding to the fact that Mayes, normally a wide receiver was playing quarterback because of a leg injury. In today’s bracket play, a team stays alive as long as it wins. The Anahuac-Lorena winner will play the winner of the game between Bandera and Hardin-Jefferson in the second round. The Small School championship game is set for 1 p.m. today. The Big School (Class 4A-5A) tournament begins with pool play at 1 p.m. today and winds up Saturday afternoon. While District 13-5A is the district with the most representation here with five schools – Klein, Klein Collins, Klein Forest, Spring and Tomball – District 21-5A has only one school competing – West Brook – and District 19-4A has none. GCM 3-1 in local 7-on-7 league Goose Creek Memorial outscored Sterling 20-6 Monday night to improve to 3-1 in a local 7-on-7 league that includes Baytown, Galena Park, La Porte and Pasadena high schools. Larson threw five TD passes a week earlier as GCM downed La Porte 36-27. Pat Wood scored three touchdowns and Price Jacobs and Jared St. Julian had the others. The league wraps up Monday with GCM hosting Pasadena High, Sterling hosting La Porte and Lee playing at Galena Park. Crosby, Sterling lead LC hoops league Both Crosby and Sterling carried 2-0 records into Thursday night’s third week of play in the Lee College summer basketball league. Crosby scored a 50-31 win over Anahuac last week and Sterling was a 51-39 winner over Clear Brook Black. In a Baytown battle, Lee downed Goose Creek Memorial 47-35. Northeast Christian defeated Clear Brook Red 58-50 and the game between Barbers Hill Blue and Barbers Hill White was cancelled because of a player shortage.

And Lamar is one of the best in 7 on 7. Not bad for a new QB and all new receivers. Gives some hope that our offense will be able to move through the air some this year.
82 5A State Champs Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 When I found out that our QB Falgout was done for the season I was a little worried about what our offense would be able to do in his absense. With Reyes calling the signals, I am somewhat suprised and happy with how they've done in 7 on 7. It makes me feel better about our chances this upcoming season.
