Maybe they sent King Middle School to play as Ozen!!! That would explain the HJ victory.. ;)

Nice try, Dickie.  The whole team was there including the one who you now worship the most in the triangle since Mr. Brown left high school and I can tell you that he has a couple of very good one on one moves but he has very little else to offer in the way of being a team player.  He also has the same attitude as the prior "Messiah"

I am back from the hospital and will head out to Silsbee High school to get all the scores and report on the championship game. It looks like Silsbee will face PA Heat in the finals.

BTW DV, HJ did not beat Central, they lost. So I do not know what BIG HJ victory you are talking about.

And who might that be Stevie? You're never at a  lost for words.

Cleveland looks very good for this next two seasons.  They will definitely be the team to beat to get to Austin.  I suspect it will be Cleveland and Silsbee in the finals tonight.  If I weren't so ready for bed already, I'd love to see that game.  Hope someone posts a good description of it here!

Silsbee will be the heavy favorite in 21-3A this coming season, but don't count the Hawks out just yet.  I'm very proud of the effort all six HJ players put on the court for most of their four games today, including the double-OT loss to Central.  Coaches Sutherland and Davis were there to see who was willing to scrap in the middle of the summer.  They'll have their work cut out for them this coming season, but they do have something to work with.

Thanks to Coaches Williams, Brooks, and all of Silsbee for putting on a first-class tournament!

I just got in from the tournament and will post all the scores and give a summary of the championship game along with a brief summary of the tourney in a few minutes.

Or, I could not waste my time posting since DV says this is a worthless tourney. I'll just call Travis and let him know I won't waste my time helping him out. ::)

I worship only God, you chump...I could care less what you people are doing down there at a worthless summer tournament "fundraiser" for Silsbee High School. Really.  You should really check yourself and worry about who you "worship".

One should suggest introspection for others only after doing so himself.  ( Elliot Spitzer and John Edwards should not lecture the population on fidelity)  If the "worthless summer tournament fundraiser" is so insignificant, why spend any of your valuable time reading about it and commenting on it? As for worshipping, you can rest assured "we people down here" do not worship players who have ability but no character or integrity nor do "we people down here" worship or give credibility to those who practice self aggrandizement.  Let me correct that:  "We people down here" do not worship or give credibility to those who, UJUSTIFIABLY, practice self aggrandizement.

AAW, it is important to remember that, as one of "those people down there" ( if you had said that, you would have been accused of being a racist) you lack the sophistication and understanding of basketball which is reserved for the enlightened few and you should not attempt to offer a thought or opinion since it has no value.

winners bracket:

Silsbee 45

Cleveland 34

Silsbee to the finals

losers bracket:

Cleveland 48

Ozen 37   Ozen eliminated, gets 3rd place

Championship Game:

Cleveland 51

Silsbee 49      Cleveland 1st, Silsbee 2nd

Game summary:

After sitting for a few hours waiting on the loser bracket to finish, Silsbee came out extremely sluggish. Cleveland jumped out to a 18-4 lead as the Tigers looked like they were still sleeping. Cleveland was able to beat Silsbee down the court on several occasions for some easy buckets. The Tigers made a little bit of a run right before half but still found themselves down 28-14 at haftime. Silsbee's senior '6"7 post Avory Thomas was the only bright spot for the Tigers in the first half, scoring 8 points and collecting 5 boards with 2 block shots.

Silsbee came out in the second half pressing and after 8 minutes of play, they had cut the 14 point margin in half. After trading baskets for the next couple of minutes, Silsbee went on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 49. Silsbee sent Cleveland to the line for a one and one with 16 seconds left and Cleveland missed the front end, Silsbee controlled the rebound but an errant pass was picked off by Cleveland and drew the foul going to the basket with 4 seconds left. He made both freethrows giving them the 2 point lead and Silsbee then missed a shot at the buzzer to end the game.

Silsbee's slow start coupled with going 7 for 22 from the charity stripe ended their tournament run on a sour note. Silsbee had reeled off 7 victories with no losses coming into this championship game, with one of those victories a 11 point win over Cleveland.

Congrats to Cleveland on the championship! Well done.

All in all this was a fantastic tournament with alot of quality teams and players being on display. Even though some (one) thinks it was "worthless", you could not tell by how hard the players played and how exciting the games were. Many, many fans enjoyed themselves over the last 3 days.

Thank you Travis, Ira, and J.C. for putting on a fine tournament and for allowing me access to the players, coaches, and teams. I had a lot of fun.

Thanks for that piece of advice, nash. Next time I'll keep my mouth shut.

Oh, and someone needs to tell Marquis Saveat that he shouldn't be participating in these "worthless" tournaments.

Did anybody notice that Ozen lost to two 3A schools in this "worthless" tourney?

Thanks for the props guys.

It was a lot of fun covering this tournament. It was exciting to watch this coming seasons players and teams and seeing the pride they had playing these games. When Silsbee played HJ, Ozen and Cleveland, when Ozen played PA, when HJ played Central, when Spurger played Anahuac (I could go on and on here), it didn't seem as though these guys were playing in just some "worthless summer league fundraiser" tourney. Many times it looked as though we were right in the middle of district play and the players and fans reacted accordingly.

When the word got out that Silsbee agreed to play HJ in a fill in game for the Hawks (HJ needed an opponent for a pool game when Evadale dropped out ), fans started talking, the excitement started building, and a very nice crowd showed up for that game. It was a mini version of the 21-3A battles these two teams have all the time. You saw a lot of those type games in this tournament. Again, it was a lot of fun and very entertaining. Hardly "worthless".

Court side, I was very impressed with your Spurger team. For only having 6 players (5 for a couple of games), your guys played great and very much held their own against these bigger programs. You and your team are to be commended for their skill and effort they showed during this entire tournament. Great job!
