Guest abovetherim Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Is there any information regarding Central alum Derrick Hall?
AJ25 Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I think we're all just kind of assuming he's coming here...
Guest abovetherim Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I've read Navarro College graduated their top 3 RB's from last season. The article mentioned Hall and another sophomore RB along with the signing of the class 3A POY last season as the top candidates to start this season. If he doesn't start at Navarro there is no way he'll be headed to A&M. I like our chances of landing him. I've seen video of him in HS and he would excel at the FCS level. He isn't very big but he has some speed. Last year he returned a 90+ yard kickoff return for a TD for Navarro College. He definitely has some skills.
Guest coachacola Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Hey abovetherim, welcome back. We haven't heard from you much. Hope you stick around and post more.
Guest abovetherim Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Navarro adds to deep class, signs Class 3A POY Smith From Staff Reports While their coaching brethren down the hall are prepping for the NJCAA Men's National Basketball Tournament, the Navarro College football staff is putting the finishing touches on a recruiting class it hopes propels the Bulldogs into a similar position next fall. Navarro's program added to its already rich recruiting hall this spring when it recently signed Class 3A Player of the Year Dwight Smith of Carthage. Smith (5-11, 220) rushed for 2,820 yards and 41 touchdowns this season, averaging 11.8 yards per carry as he led Carthage to the state championship. Smith started at running back as a senior for the Bulldogs after spending his junior in California. A double-signee with Texas Christian University, Smith twice eclipsed the 200-yard barrier during playoff stops at Tigers Stadium in Corsicana. He saved his best playoff game for the title tilt, shredding perennial state power Celina for 267 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-37 Carthage victory. Smith was named first-team all-state running back and the Collin Street Bakery Texas Sportswriters Association Class 3A Player of the Year. In playoff wins in Corsicana, Smith rushed for 217 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries against Rockdale and had 298 yards and five TDs vs. Giddings. Smith's signing is important because Navarro lost its top three rushers from last year, leaving only Derrick Hall and redshirt freshman DePauldrick Garrett. "Dwight is a special kid," said Navarro Head Coach Nick Bobeck. "To be 5-10 and 220 pounds and run like that is rare. He has the ability to go through you or get sideways on you. He's an exceptional talent." Navarro, which finished 10-1 in Bobeck's first year, already had a fine class of recruits, including top-flight defensive end Toby Jackson, a one-time University of Georgia signee who will be one of the most recruited junior college players in the country next fall. Navarro also recently added a pair of sterling out-of-state players in 6-5, 294-pound offensive lineman Kendall Kelly and Arkansas double-signee Shauntez Bruce (6-4, 290) of Tallahassee, Fla. Bruce can play either guard or tackle. Kelly was a University of South Florida commitment before heading the junior college route. A three-star recruit by Scout.com, Kelly was named a Class 5A first-team all-state offensive lineman at Gainesville (Fla.) High School. He had 11 pancake blocks and seven knockdowns as a senior. "We filled most of our needs, with the exception of quarterback, although we've got an outstanding one coming back in Milton (Howell)," Bobeck said. "Our coaches did an outstanding job of creating depth and future competition on the offensive line. Kelly, Bruce and Cyril Richardson and Malcolm O'Dear of North Crowley are all athletic players who can in some instances play multiple positions. Cyril is a massive kid who has a chance to come in and compete right away for playing time." Navarro will begin spring workouts on March 23. It will conclude its work with a spring game on April 25.
Guest abovetherim Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks coachacola, I hope to frequent the forum more often.
Guest mffl Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 I've heard things from former WB players who said Jacody and Billy were coming back at the beginning of the summer... they were right the first time.
