TexasTerror Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 There is a lot of talk about this on the national level of FCS. If Lamar can duplicate, it would really springboard the program nationally. They have just shy of 20k seats at Old Dominion...with 6000 reserved for students/visiting fans/band. NORFOLK -- Nearly 300 people hoping to get season tickets for Old Dominion University's return to the gridiron have been turned away because there aren't enough available seats at Foreman Field. This week, the school notified 296 people who had made down payments that they would not get season tickets. They had ordered a total 1,065 tickets. Lazeek Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Hope this is a problem at LU, but do not think that it will be the case.
Guest coachacola Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I think they've sold over 13,000 season tickets. There's a lot of FBS teams (all of the Sun Belt, most of the WAC, half of the CUSA) that don't even sell that many. I read where South Alabama has sold a little over 6,000 season tickets so far. I expect Lamar to sell at least 5,000.
Lazeek Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 If LU sells 5,000 season tickets then I would only expect 8-10K per game.
Guest abovetherim Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 LU only sells about 2,000 season tickets for men's basketball and they average about 4,000 in attendance the past few years. In football if they sell 5,000 season tickets, continue to recruit the SE Texas area hard, are competitive and have affordable tickets for the average family I can see a lot more than 10,000 viewing a college football game. JMO.

Lazeek Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Recruiting locals is the key if they can win..................if you can win with locals then it will be a huge draw..............if not then they will have to recruit out of the area and state to be able to win.

This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up I lived in that area for five years; the thing is they have 1.5 million people in the metro area as to Beaumonts 300K max. They have three other FCS level football schools in the metro area (Norfolk State, Hampton U. and William and Mary) and two Division III (Christopher Newport and Newport News Apprentice). Norfolk State which is between five to ten miles down the road from ODU and when I was last over there in 07 they were wanting to make a annual game between ODU and NSU for a inter city rivalry game. I think if the ticket prices are right the first seasons games should be sellouts at LU.
Guest coachacola Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 We talked about ODU a few months earlier in another thread and it's hard to make any direct comparisons between them and LU. I guess we'll know soon enough how well ticket sales go in SETX.

But if they go 11-0 with 85 kids from Hawaii, the stands will be full. Just win baby.
Lazeek Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Yes, just win!!!!!!!! Speaking of tickets..................when will they go on sale? Are they waiting to finalize the Inaugural Season's Schedule before taking the applications for season tickets?

Are they waiting to finalize the Inaugural Season's Schedule before taking the applications for season tickets? Well, they took their sweet time before starting renovations of the stadium and athletic complex and we still don't have any new drawings or virtual displays of the final product. The construction blog hasn't been updated in weeks, and the facilities link still doesn't mention the stadium. I'm surprised the webcam still works. They'll probably announce ticket sales next summer. :
AggiesAreWe Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 I've already got mine! You guys need to get with it.
Lazeek Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 If there is a $1000 PSL then I will be buying General Admission tickets!!!!

It is easy to say that it would be hard to watch a zero win team - and it is easy to say you will watch an undefeated team. I didn't say Lamar needs to have only Golden Triangle talent on it. - But... If they get the larger share of all the local talent that is being recruited out of here, they will not have a Zero win season. Recruiting strongly means that you recruited so well that the very talented young out of the Golden Triangle helped Lamar win over McNeese - not McNeese over Lamar. I will follow the team that wins...I wouldn't be able to stop my family from going to the stadium if local boys played a large part in winning.
