BigRedMachine Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 July 21, 2009 by Gary Stelly -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The BCLL 12 year old All-Stars came into Tuesday's Sectional Championship game with a lot of confidence. They were facing West End, a team they had already defeated 8-1. The West Ender's kept the game interesting early before the red hot bats of BC delivered them the title. Coby Roddy, who was 3-3 with 3 HR's in the semifinals, led off the game with...what else, another homerun! Chase Shugart said he'd like some of that action and one batter later he cranked one out to give BC a quick 2-0 lead. WE lead off batter Brady Sullivan lead off the bottom of the first with a walk and then scored on a ground out RBI by Ford Proctor to cut the lead in half. In the second, Ryne Shugart walked, Chase Shugart singled, and then catcher Blake Pruett drove in Ryne to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the third starting pitcher Roddy walked Proctor and then 2B Matt Scheurich tomahawked a pitch over the center field fence to tie the game at three. A tie game going into the fourth was a wake-up call to Ronnie Shugarts team, who had not been pressured in the tournament. After doubling off the wall, Kolton Bergeron came home on a Chase Shugart single. Then Roddy, who reached after being hit by a pitch, scored on a fielder's choice by Pruett to make the score 5-3 and from there, BC never looked back. Chase Rutledge led off the fifth with a HR to make it 6-3. Statman Mark Watts added that of Rutledge's five hits in the tournament, four were homeruns. Matthew Kress got on with a 2 base error and then scored on an error to make it 7-3. WE tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded and big Blake Darling at the plate, but Chase Shugart replaced Roddy and sent Darling to the dugout with a "K" in the scorebook. In the sixth, BC's Corbin Voegeli drove in Rutledge, Tryce Howard scored on a wild pitch and then Ryne Shugart plated two with a double to make the score 11-3. The game would end with Voegeli making an incredible catch in left field with two on. Roddy struck out nine to get the victory. Being the stereotypical coach, Shugart wasn't totally satisfied, "We left the bases loaded like twice." But before the final out he looked up and said, "How can I be upset, we scored 11 runs, I don't think we had an error, and we got the win. The kids really played well." BC will travel to Tyler this weekend and will begin play Saturday evening. Stay tuned for a tournament bracket. KOGT Sports will be broadcasting live from Tyler, Texas for this weekends 12 year old State All-Star baseball tournament, featuring Bridge City. The Cardinals will open the tournament on KOGT Saturday at 6pm from Faulkner Fields
