Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Vice President Tom Atencio today informed his fighters that the upcoming “Trilogy†event planned for the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on August 1 has been canceled according to SI.com. The news comes just days after Affliction suffered a major blow to its pay-per-view main event when headliner Josh Barnett tested positive for anabolic steroids in the first ever random drug test administered by the California State Athletic Commission on June 25. As a result, Barnett was denied a license to compete, forcing company officials to scramble for a replacement opponent opposite Fedor Emelianenko. Speculation had revolved around who that replacement fighter would be. At the top of a short list of candidates was current middleweight contender Vitor Belfort, who was scheduled to face Jorge Santiago that same night, but who also stated he was willing to move up in weight to fight “The Last Emperor.†Dark horse Brett Rogers, fresh off a stunning first round knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, as well as freelance fighter Jeff Monson were also under consideration. Now it appears their services will no longer be needed. What impact this cancellation has on the future of Affliction MMA remains to be seen — but as of now it’s not looking very promising. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more breaking news on this unfortunate turn of events
Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I bet Dana white is sitting back and laughing, I knew this organization wouldn't last lol..
venom33 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 yep... this frees up alot of talent! i knew they would never surpass the ufc(company) but it was nice to be able to watch another fight card with totally different fighters between ufc ppv's. affliction brought a few fighters to the states that alot of the tuf fans didnt know existed.
Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 yep, and Hopefully they will get belfort back, and some other guys, but I mean FEDOR needs to show some balls and get the contract stuff fixed and sign with the UFC.
venom33 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 yep, and Hopefully they will get belfort back, and some other guys, but I mean FEDOR needs to show some balls and get the contract stuff fixed and sign with the UFC. i really dont think "balls" have anything to do with it...c'mon now baseball! i think we will see a "super card" with strike force or something in the VERY near future! you have alot of fighters who've been training for a while for a fight on 8/1 and these guys are now out of a job. i hope something good comes out of this. also, i think gegard mousassi(sp?) and santiago would be a good pickups! fedor said--“Josh is a great, strong fighter. I've always followed his fights and liked him as a competitor and as a person. I was very prepared, totally ready for a good, hard fight. But,†he said, pausing for a few seconds, “what can you do? I am disappointed, though I'm glad that after all I don't have to fight a friend.†This was followed by genuine laughter, which is not something that I've seen a lot of from the camp in the last day. Fedor was optimistic about speaking to Barnett. "We haven't had a chance to speak to him yet, though I really want to,†he said. “And once we do speak, most probably we will not discuss what has happened in the last day." He said this with a concern that seemed directed at the well being of Barnett, almost out of worry for him, rather than out of any animosity, though nobody would have faulted Fedor for being angry with Barnett.
LUFAN Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Man that damn t-shirt company... Now I will not get to see a Gomi, and Mousasi in the states... that ticks me off. They are great fighters... plus I really like to watch Buentello..
LUFAN Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Here is a list of big failed MMA orgs in US 1)Bodog Fights 2)Pride 2 US events 3)Elite XC 4)Affliction 5)King of the Cage (they used to put on quite a few ppvs) 6)WFA had 1 PPV with some good folks then just folded. They had Rampage Jackson, Mayhem Miller, and Matt Linland. Good card crappy production. 7) HDNET Fights... had 1 or 2 of their own cards... good quality. 8) IFL... 9) IFC... One or two really good cards with good fighers.. here is there best card This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up
Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 If fedor doesn't sign with UFC alot of people will lose respect for Fedor. He has to sign with the UFC to complete his RESUME as the GREATEST ever.
LUFAN Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 I agree Baseball.. I think UFC and Strikeforce have the business models to keep doing well when in the USA..
venom33 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 If fedor doesn't sign with UFC alot of people will lose respect for Fedor. He has to sign with the UFC to complete his RESUME as the GREATEST ever. i think this is where you and i differ...weve had this debate numerous times and i dont think either one of us will budge an inch. i dont think the hardcore fans will ever lose respect for him or what hes done! theres is no one in the ufc he needs to fight to solidify what hes done! i would love to see fedor in the ufc and i think it will eventually happen, but he doesnt NEED them and they dont NEED him, but for any ufc hw to be #1 in the world THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH FEDOR! hes beaten k1 champs, ufc champs(numerous times), pride champs, abu dhabi champs, wrestling champs, and held the pride belt for 6 years straight... if you think for a second he needs to fight 4-1 lesnar, 12-4 mir, or a few tuf winners to solidify anything youre nuts! just incase you forgot-- JMO ;D Result Record Opponent Method Event Date Round Time Location Notes Vitor Belfort Affliction: Trilogy 02009-08-01 August 1, 2009 Anaheim, California, United States Defending WAMMA Heavyweight Championship Win 30–1 (1) ArlovskiAndrei Arlovski KO (Punch) Affliction: Day of Reckoning 02009-01-24 January 24, 2009 1 3:14 Anaheim, California, United States Defended WAMMA Heavyweight Championship Win 29–1 (1) SylviaTim Sylvia Submission (rear naked choke) Affliction: Banned 02008-07-19 July 19, 2008 1 0:36 Anaheim, California, United States Won vacant WAMMA Heavyweight Championship Win 28–1 (1) ChoiHong-Man Choi Submission (armbar) Yarennoka! 02007-12-31 December 31, 2007 1 1:54 Saitama, Japan Win 27–1 (1) LindlandMatt Lindland Submission (armbar) BodogFight - Clash of the Nations 02007-04-14 April 14, 2007 1 2:58 St. Petersburg, Russia Win 26–1 (1) HuntMark Hunt Submission (kimura) Pride Shockwave 2006 02006-12-31 December 31, 2006 1 8:16 Saitama, Japan Defended Pride World Heavyweight Championship Win 25–1 (1) Coleman 2Mark Coleman Submission (armbar) Pride 32: The Real Deal 02006-10-21 October 21, 2006 2 1:16 Las Vegas, United States Win 24–1 (1) Melvin ManhoefZuluzinho Submission (strikes) Pride Shockwave 2005 02005-12-31 December 31, 2005 1 0:26 Saitama, Japan Win 23–1 (1) FilipovićMirko Filipović Decision (unanimous) Pride Final Conflict 2005 02005-08-28 August 28, 2005 3 5:00 Saitama, Japan Defended Pride World Heavyweight Championship Win 22–1 (1) Kohsaka 2Tsuyoshi Kohsaka TKO (doctor stoppage) Pride Bushido 6 02005-04-03 April 3, 2005 1 10:00 Yokohama, Japan Win 21–1 (1) Nogueira 3Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira Decision (unanimous) Pride Shockwave 2004 02004-12-31 December 31, 2004 3 5:00 Saitama, Japan Defended Pride World Heavyweight Championship Won Pride 2004 HW GP zNC 20–1 (1) Nogueira 2Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira No contest (accidental headbutt) Pride Final Conflict 2004 02004-08-15 August 15, 2004 1 3:52 Saitama, Japan Pride 2004 HW GP Finals Win 20–1 OgawaNaoya Ogawa Submission (armbar) Pride Final Conflict 2004 02004-08-14 August 14, 2004August 15, 2004 1 0:54 Saitinokiama, Japan Pride 2004 HW GP Semifinals Win 19–1 RandlemanKevin Randleman Submission (kimura) Pride Critical Countdown 2004 02004-06-20 June 20, 2004 1 1:33 Saitama, Japan Pride 2004 HW GP Quarterfinals Win 18–1 Coleman 1Mark Coleman Submission (armbar) Pride Total Elimination 2004 02004-04-25 April 25, 2004 1 2:11 Saitama, Japan. Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 The guy is GREAT and I am not saying that he's not, but if you have a chance to fight in the best organization ever then you need to do it because his name would even be more recognized and he would become more popular than what he is now, look at anderson silva now everyone knows who he is now, look how popular RAMPAGE has gotten because he fights in the UFC, Joe calzaghe fought BHOP and Roy jones jr and everyone knows who he is now. What I am trying to say is if FEDOR never fights in the UFC all the MMA experts will say FEDOR is the best HEAVYWEIGHT out there but the GUY never fought in the BEST ORGANIZATION so that hurts him, and I don't care what you say it does, and all the EXPERTS know that too, he sure did beat ex UFC champs but you know UFC cut them for a reason because they weren't good anymore, and now there is a NEW UFC heavyweight CHAMP that everyone knows. I mean if LESNAR fought for another organization he wouldn't be has recognized as he is, but Lesnar is getting more mainstream than what FEDOR gets because he's in the UFC so just think how much FEDOR would get if he was in the UFC, but fighting old ex UFC champs will not do it, he needs to fight in the UFC and fight some of these young and athletic UFC heavyweights. ALL great fighters, athletes, and etc want to play in the NFL,NBA,MLB,UFC, and so forth so why wonder why FEDOR doesn't thats all I am saying.....

Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Because its all about the RATINGS and MONEY and also for the FANS this is what the FANS want to and DANA wants it, Lesnar wants it, so now does FEDOR want it? Man the only guy I see beating Lesnar is FEDOR rightnow and thats a IF, people need to realize that LESNAR is a athletic beast that is only going to get better and better, there aren't alot of athletes like Lesnar, and Athletes like him only get better and Lesnar has the work ethic to get that much better, I mean do you see why all the great JAPAN baseball players, european bball players come to the NBA and MLB because they one to play against the BEST and see what they can do against the BEST because those are the best Leagues in the world so FEDOR needs to step up to the plate and sign with the UFC, UFC doesn't need FEDOR I mean they got LESNAR but I want to see FEDOR vs LESNAR, FEDOR vs Coutore, FEDOR vs carwin, Fedor vs Mir, Fedor vs Velesquez, Fedor vs overeem and he will be in the UFC, Fedor vs Rogers he will be in the UFC, as a fight fan I want to see these fights so Nut up Fedor and give the USA Fans what they want and that is you in the UFC...

Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 LoL our best players don't play in the World Baseball classic lol I mean look at all the JAPAN pitchers that have never made it in the MLB they have 3 good yrs and then they go down hill, I mean our players don't even get prepared and get in baseball shape to play in the Classic, so don't bring up the baseball thing I played college ball and my cousin is a MLB player and I know my baseball and we always talk about that, the best players in the USA can careless about the WBC....

Guest baseball25 Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 yeah the other teams prepare for it the whole year, our guys don't care they chill with there families andwhen the classic comes then they play, there no where near pitching shape what so ever, all the other teams JAPAN all there guys are in shape and ready to go, just think if Peavy, Halliday, verlander, Beckett, cain, linthucum and etc were in pitching shape and all of our stud hitters we would dominate....
