BEAUMONT - Sondra Ancelot-Lundvick will add another line to her name when referencing her time at Lamar University, now adding former assistant coach to the former player tag she has had in the past.

The former Lady Cardinals three point specialist officially resigned as associate head coach on Friday, July 31. She has accepted a position as athletics director and girl’s basketball coach in Alaska.

“I would like to thank the president, athletic administration and the student athletes at Lamar University for making the women’s basketball program first class,†Ancelot-Lundvick said. “I would especially like to thank coach Tidwell for the opportunity to coach at Lamar for the last two seasons. They were definitely two of the best years of my career.â€

During her time as a Lady Cardinals assistant coach, LU produced 39 wins, 20 of which came this past season. The 2008-09 Lady Cards are just the seventh team in school history to win 20 or more games, and the first since the 1991-92 season which Ancelot-Lundvick was also a member of as a player.

“When I hired Sondra, we both had the strong desire and passion to revive the Lady Cardinals basketball program,†said head coach Larry Tidwell. “With the 24-seven-365 attitude, we feel that we have accomplished that in a short two years. She has been instrumental in the success of many, many areas of our program that included academics, recruiting, scouting, and on court play. Sondra has a deep rooted love and appreciation for Lamar University and she brought that desire with her to work every day and make no mistake about it, she will be missed.

“On another note, we’re very happy for Sondra and her husband Jay as they take on an adventure of a lifetime. The entire coaching staff and players wish them the very best and look forward to staying in touch in her new career.â€
