Lady Bears 3-0 after sweep at Barbers Hill tourney

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears and the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs had no problems in their season-opening volleyball matches.

LC-M (3-0) defeated the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns 25-17, 26-24, 25-14 while WO-S took down Port Arthur Memorial 25-19, 25-21, 14-25, 25-15.

Christine Sicktich had 13 kills, 14 assists, nine digs and four aces.

Kellie Tilley posted 16 assists, four aces and three digs. Elissa Tate had seven kills and an ace while Ashton LaVergne had five kills and a block.

Shelby Sanchez notched 13 digs and two aces. Shelby Apperson had two kills and two blocks. Kalyn Harkness had seven digs. Amy Laughlin had three kills and two assists. Megan Kemp had two kills and an ace and Michelle Rigsby had two kills and a block.

In the win over Memorial, Ishaneka Gant and Johneshia Sims had five kills apiece. Lady Mustang Ashley Kelly set up the offense well with 12 assists while Myshaniqua Warnell contributed 16 digs.

The Lady Bears went to the Barbers Hill Tournament Thursday and downed Dickinson 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 25-17 and swept Channelview 25-17, 25-21, 25-15.

Sicktich had 25 kills and 15 assists in the two matches. Tilley posted 34 assists.

Apperson had 13 kills and LaVergne had 12 while Tate and Laughlin added eight apiece. Kemp had six kills while Sanchez and Kalyn Harkness played excellent defense.

The Lady Bears play Brazoswood and Baytown Lee today.

The Lady Mustangs will host the Lady Bears tonight at Mustang Gym.
