A.J. Dugat is still a Cougar. Stay tuned.

The rumors and conspiracy theories have been speeding through cyberspace. Houston Cougars practices are closed to the public and media, and there have been no reported sightings of freshman receiver A.J. Dugat, and there is no mugshot of him to go with his biographical profile on the school's Web site, and what could that mean?

As of Thursday night, it meant that Dugat — a Parade All-American from Dayton — is still a Cougar. And still waiting for a chance to show what he can do on the practice.

He's not alone in his state of limbo.

Cougars coach Kevin Sumlin said the school is still waiting for the NCAA compliance center to rule on the status of Dugat, junior-college transfer Devin Mays and 2009 recruit George Bamfo. Until the UH compliance staff gets clearance from the NCAA, Sumlin said, the three players will not practice.

"They're part of our Cougar family," Sumlin said. "They're on the roster, and as soon as they're cleared, they will practice."

Sumlin said the NCAA has given him no timetable on when it will rule on the three players. The 6-0, 188-pound is the most heralded member of the UH freshman class, having 1,776 yards receiving and 737 rushing last fall. The Cougars are counting on Mays, a junior from City College of San Francisco, to compete for a starting cornerback spot. Bamfo is a 5-11, 200-pound linebacker from Rockwall.

The compliance center sometimes works slowly.  Important to get your stuff into them as early as possible.  Sounds like he should be fine, just an administrative holdup.

This doesn't mean he has grade problems. This just means he hasn't cleared the clearinghouse. The clearinghouse is extremely slow sometimes. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with A.J.'s records.

Mays has been cleared....still waiting on Dugat.

Man, A.J. declared for U of H years ago (it seems) - you would think that little things like this (tongue in cheek) would have

been cleared up before practice started. ???

Per article in Houston Chronicle

Newcomers such as junior-college transfer receiver James Cleveland and freshman running back Charles Sims have made pushes for playing time in preseason camp. What's more, celebrated freshman receiver A.J. Dugat— a Parade All-American from Dayton — received clearance Thursday to start practicing with the team while the NCAA reviews his eligibility.
