In the article on the LU web site - it mentions the Cards were the first college team to play in a domed stadium twice in one year. Mentions the Astrodome and Superdome.

Lamar's 1975 Cardinals became the first collegiate team to play in two domed stadiums (Houston's Astrodome vs. the University of Houston and New Orleans' Superdome vs. Southern Mississippi) in the same season.

I have a hard time believing that is factual, but then again, Rush Wood was covering the Cards back then, so he's probably right. Impressive stat!

Which teams were playing in domed stadiums back then? Pre 1975? Houston. When'd Tulane leave Tulane Stadium for the Superdome? Nevermind, found it. 1975!

Always the skeptic when it comes to Lamar.

It was an odd stat out of nowhere. For those of us a bit older than young MFFL, we are used to plenty of dome stadiums. I thought the domed stadium era was a little older than the year specified. It's neat stuff...

Still - more comments on the mistake(s) and giving me crap than remarks on the schedule!

I'm impressed with Terror's enthusiasm... So you actually think this is a good schedule for a first year program?

This is the BEST schedule you could have gotten!

Sure, the home games are probably not what you wanted (with half being sub-Div I games), but you get four SLC games total. Games against upstarts, which is good as well. North Dakota and South Dakota are in the Great West, which is a conference that has consistently scheduled games against the SLC.

In 1975 (the first year of The Superdome), The University of Southern Mississippi was having its stadium renovated and played all of its home games that year in the new somed stadium. They opened with Lamar...which was the first football game played in the SUPERDOME as I recall (preceding even a SAINTS game). I was a student at Lamar then and made the trek to New Orleans to see both the Cards and the new stadium which was getting a LOT of press at the time...the stadium was still not quite finished, but playable. USM had a big fast QB that operated out of a veer offense...he was drafted by the DALLAS COWBOYS but I can't remember his name. What I do remember is that he ran and passed at will against Bob Fredrick's Cardinals...my recollection is that the final score was 35 - 0.

I was in the Superdome last night. The facility has never impressed me and I've just never gotten the feel in the two games I have been that I am at a quality football venue, let alone at a football game.
