ChampionEagles
Bottom line, when you are talking football, WOS has the highest winning percentage in the state of Texas across all classifications. The were deemed the winningest football program in the state. They are ranked 20th in the nation by winning percentage. There were only 3 teams in the top 50 from Texas and none if the teams listed in this post were on there except WOS. So with that said WOS is it period, you can't argue the facts. I think if you win in late November and December it out weighs some losses in September and October. Look at WOS87's historical playoff stats for area teams, Newton wins when it counts and your right, you can't argue the facts.

AggiesAreWe
Newton Football or WOS football???? If we are just speaking of the last 10 years, like you said, then it has to be Newton.
Guest EagleFan01
Newton also has 50 playoff victories all time, and that my friends is the best all time in SETX.

Thats all great and everything but, WOS didn't start playing football till what 57? Newton has been playing since 1921. Having less games played will give you the chance to have a higher winning percentage. This discussion could go on forever about Newton and WOS who is a bigger powerhouse? I love it lets see how far we can make it go.

Still, their winning percentage is second to none in our area and if you were to start this discussion with the year 1977, WOS is hands down the most powerful. ChampionEagles
Newton did not break even in won/loss until 1980. Of coarse started a few generations prior to 1977. ;D

ChampionEagles
Since 1977 WOS has played a total of 363 games. Newton has played in 380. The difference being nearly entirely due to playing in playoff games. What was Coach Barbay's first game as Head Coach at Newton? Win or loss? AggiesAreWe
Here is how these two schools stack up record wise since 1977: WOS 290-75-3 79% winning percentage playoffs 19 appearances 33-17-1 2 state championships, 2 runnerups 64% winning percentage Newton 289-84-5 76% winning percentage playoffs 27 appearances 43-24-2 2 state championships, 1 runnerup 62% winning percentage After looking at the statistics, I believe you could just flip a coin between these two powerhouse football programs. Let's just call'em 1A and 1B.
TheBigSwitch
One statistic has been left out, the fact that WOS has done it in 5A, 4A and 3A. Also to the point about Newton being the smallest in 3A that is true and great, but remember WOS was in 4A and one of the smaller in 4A when they were crowned winningest program. Both are great programs.
ChampionEagles
I don't care for the coin toss, we've lost some of those. Ha!Ha! Just 2 great programs that could be models for others. The intangible is how do they keep doing it, year in and year out. By the way Coach Barbay's first game was a tie with Orangefield. What a way to start a career. BMTSoulja1
How come Ozen basketball only got 7 votes and H-J basketball gets like 11 and WO-S gets like a million? Come on, people. There is obviously major bias going on here. 'I'll just pick MY team'. : :
ChampionEagles
Yea your right! This area is definately a football, not basketball area. Bias everywhere! Just kidding.
