As of this time, it pretty much sits empty without being used at all.  There have been a number of ideas for it's use.  Turn it into a hotel, a parking lot and even tear it down.  The last I heard some company was looking to acquire it to turn it into an indoor snow skiing area (YES! I AM SERIOUS!!!)

Even though I loved me some Dome back in the day, Reliant Stadium is a much better place to watch a football game.

They havent held an event there for years....No one ever goes in it....Last time it was used was to house Rita evacuees.

Last I heard it has been taken over by cats. Yes, meow cats. Heard it was a freaking mess.

A HLS&R Safety Officer told me last year, prior to the Rodeo, that the Houston Fire Marshall condemned the Astrodome as it was no longer up to the fire code. Didn't confirm this, but remembered thinking this smells political.
