Guest coachacola Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 “Our on-campus enrollment is the largest since the first class day of fall 2004, our peak prior to Hurricane Rita’s landfall,†said Kevin Smith, associate vice president for academic affairs. “This record enrollment comes despite tougher admissions standards that began in January. We know these higher standards have led us to turn away a large number of potential students. We also know that these students would have struggled, and in many cases, been unable to succeed at the university level.†The university’s four Cardinal Village residence halls, housing about 2,000 students on campus, are full with a waiting list. About 30 students are “tripling up†with three students to a unit rather than two, officials said. The university is giving a discount to students while they are living three to a unit and will move students into any units that open up, officials said. Cardinal Village V will be breaking ground soon. http://www.lamar.edu/newsevents/news/207_7868.htm
KDOSullivan Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Yes, more dorms for the university is a positive. It will become more attractive to Houston, DFW, Austin, CC etc kids.
cardinalcc Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Man it was packed on campus today. It seemed like there was twice as many people as last year. There is definitely a growth from last year.
