BMTSoulja1 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 You said that right. A win is a win. Take it and improve week to week. Congrads, Pirates!
magic Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 sgtrey You are really a childish dude. First, you didn't get the margin even close to right. Eleven points off doesn't win you much money in Vegas. Second, what man gets on here with hah hah I told you so's. If you watched or listened to the game you would know that Eddins played well with 9/15 passing for 105 yards in the first half. Kelly basically had only two possesions in the second half because of the way that Vidor controlled the ball. That was completely expected. Vidor has way too much size for Kelly. Grow up!!
vidor pirate Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Well, Vidor is not as good as I thought they might be. Don't start smiting, because I am pulling for you guys to win district. Vidor is way suspect in defending the pass. They are pretty big, but I was very surprised at how well a way undersized, overmatched Kelly team hung in there in the trenches. Vidor did finally manage to wear them down, but that's not going to happen in 4A. A win is a win, but the Pirate fans(and there were a lot) have to be a little concerned at the way Kelly moved the ball at times. you are completely right, i was horrified with our pass defense, i have to give credit where credit is due though, #15 for kelly, their reciever was a beast, and when their qb had time in the pocket he was deadly accurate
vidor pirate Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 that being said, it didn't help that the refs gave kelly 2 first and goals on bogus penalties when it would have been fourth down, oh yea and i'm back! :-)

I was thinking the same-not quite as good as what I have been reading-but it is the first game. They will need to improve on defending the pass, but with the type of defense they run that is how it's going to look. As long as we can score we will be ok!!! District will be tough, but we are very well conditioned and sometimes just wearing the other team out is all you need.
bassman Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 In a nutshell, Vidor beat a predominantly J.V. team. Mostly sophomore players. And barely. District title. No chance. Defense is horrible.

raideroldtimer Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Let's see if they show some omprovement next on the D.
RustedCutlass Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 Defense is horrible. Maybe now. But that is why you play pre-district. And playing a passing team like Kelly will get them better prepared for teams like Nederland. Sorry, bassman, but that is what the predistrict and scrimmages are about. And for those saying Vidor had trouble with the pass, I didn't see one touchdown through the air except for the one botched pass in the first quarter. After we started blitzing, Eddins threw incomplete a lot more than completions ... especially when they were in a pass situation. And the penalties called on two of the pass plays should not have been called as the ball was ten feet over the receiver's head and therefore uncatchable. The ball does still have to be able to be caught right? One of them was sailing out of bounds even. Maybe someone changed the rules when I wasn't looking... The only thing I can say to that for the Vidor players to improve is this: When a QB is throwing right into your hands, CATCH THE BALL! Don't just knock it down! ;D But hey, first real game jitters. Two more games to work the bugs out. And for those of you making excuses, Kelly has some big ol' boys on that line. Don't start discrediting them. They are going to tear some of their regular opponents a new you-know-what once the games start counting. Let's see if they show some omprovement next on the D. Actually, they were starting to heat up in the fourth. Forced the Bulldogs to go three and out on their first fourth quarter possession and on their second possession (also their final), Rico and Runnells ran down Eddins in the backfield for a 20-yard loss. If we can force them to have to throw, then everyone will be "singing our defenses' praises" quite possibly. (Of course I'm being facicious with all you haters out there. ) One game does not a season make.

It was really obvious kelly wasnt going to be able to run the ball but Vidor played man to man coverage the majority of the game with no safety help? Is this the way they run their defense?

What he is saying though is that when Eddins had time he had a fairly easy time completing the ball. Our O Line will be a quality one soon but there are just so young right now...all in all for the majority of them it was their first varsity game...Good Job Boys.
mlp9111 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 here we go talking about how bad vidor is. im sure theres no way that a team playing theyre first game can improve. i have to give credit to kelly, i was underestimating them as well. they stepped up and suprised alot of people. maybe kelly is a little better than we all gave them credit for. vidor definetly needs some work on defense and im sure they will get better. whats funny is its been outsiders saying vidors gonna win district. vidor fans, coaches, kids all know how tuff this district is, we take it one game at a time. we will see how it all turns out at the end of the season...
BWOOD Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I was so impressed with the adults and students from Kelly, all night long they were singing F*** YOU VIDOR. What a christian atmosphere they have at Kelly.
Guest tigersvoice Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I was s impressed with the adults and students from Kelly, all night long they were singing F*** YOU VIDOR. What a christian atmosphere they have at Kelly. Whoa!! Is this true? Can someone corroborate this statement?

I got you, KB, altough that can pretty much be said for any quarterback who is given time to throw. What I didn't understand was the people already making excuses because of the age of the players, etc... Those are some big guys you have. I don't think they have any reason to hang their heads. They played well on the line the first half. We just wore them down in the second, but that is what we do against any team we play that hopefully we beat ... ground and pound and keep their offense off the field. Kelly has no reason to hang their heads. I was real impressed with you guys. Good luck the rest of your season.

What a christian atmosphere they have at Kelly. Whoa!! Is this true? Can someone corroborate this statement? Well, yes and no. It wasn't the whole game and was mostly just the student section (that I can speak of) that I heard. I believe it happened in the middle of the fourth right after Jake Travis put us up 42-21. But yes, a chant did start up in the Kelly student section. "F you Vidor!" clap clap clapclapclap. "F you Vidor!" clap clap clapclapclap. Their intended message was loud and clear.

What a christian atmosphere they have at Kelly. Whoa!! Is this true? Can someone corroborate this statement? I was on the field and thought I heard something like that. There were coaches on top of the press box that also said that there were some people escorted out of the stadium. Not real sure what was going on.
mlp9111 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 i think anytime you have fans from both teams sitting together, it causes problems. sounded like they had a little cheering war going on. but with the minimal seating there it couldnt be helped. the visitor side was barely big enough for the band...
team first Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I didn't hear them saying f u vidor, I understood them to say state champs vidor. Then they where clapping for vidor ;D

OK, so that makes it acceptable for any school to condone this type of behavior?

mlp9111 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 not saying condone it. people should have a little more class and not start saying stuff like that. i thought about going to the other side to sit but i dont like it when visitors sit on our side and holler for theyre team either so i just stood on the visitors side.

A win is a win, but the Pirate fans(and there were a lot) have to be a little concerned at the way Kelly moved the ball at times. I agree about the concern. I think it is all about pass defence. And we need one! I still think we can stop the run and we can run at will. We just have to be concerned with a good QB. Kelly has a good QB but we seemed to be getting better at defending him as the game rocked on. We also need to work on catching the ball for an interseption. The ball hit several Pirates in the hands and they could not get a handle on it. Remember though this is the first game of the season and the coach held off on another score by downing the ball on the 1 yard line at the end. One more think. Kelly you have a great team! You guys will go far this year! My prediction!!!
outrider52 Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 I don't believe it has been mentioned that Kelly's last TD came on a kickoff return, (I know, they all count no matter how they're scored) and at the end of the game Vidor had a first and goal at the Kelly 2 yard line and took a knee 3 times to run out the clock.
thejvguy Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 ture Vidor could have easly scored again. they were on the two yard line and ran the clock out.
