If the Vidor football team was looking to use its experience in mastering the Wing-T offense on Friday, it accomplished just that.

In Friday's season opener at Kelly, the Pirates amassed 415 rushing yards on 54 carries en route to a 42-21 victory over Kelly.

Jacob Peevey totaled 185 yards on 18 carries while Shane Pittman added 20 carries for 103 yards and Kevin Tate rushed for 90 yards on 12 attempts.

The Pirates, who return 19 starters from last season, found success running the ball early Friday.

Peevey notched a 75-yard touchdown run on Vidor's first play from scrimmage with 8:04 left in the first quarter.

Peevey's TD made it 7-7 early following an opening-drive 22-yard TD reception by Kelly's Ben Peyton from Dakota Eddins.

Peevey scored his second TD of the night with 6:26 remaining in the second quarter on a 12-yard scamper that gave Vidor a 14-7 advantage.

Kelly tied the contest at 14 when Patrick Cook plunged in for a 6-yard run with 2:07 left in the second quarter, but a 31-yard run by Vidor running back Kevin Tate with 22 seconds remaining in the half gave the Pirates a 20-14 lead they never relinquished.

Vidor quarterback Nick Dozhier finished with 2-of-3 passing for 16 yards.

Eddins led the Bulldogs with 115 passing yards on 11-of-23 attempts.

Kelly running back Tyler Palermo had 32 yards on eight carries for the Bulldogs.

Vidor, which finished last season with a 5-4 record, will play at Houston St. Thomas next Friday while Kelly will play host to Hitchcock.

I was so impressed with the adults and students from Kelly, all night long they were singing F*** YOU VIDOR.  What a christian atmosphere they have at Kelly.

That's an outright lie.    I'm not from Kelly, but that is a lie.  There were no parents saying that stuff.

Kelly has a better team than most people think. Eddins is a great quarterback and their other skilled positions are good athletes as well.

Vidor was flat in the 1st half maybe because they underestimated the bulldogs.

The only thing that I didn't like was kelly's 1st TD actually being a Vidor INT in the endzone and the call the refs made to set up Kellys 2nd touchdown.

* By the way the Kelly fans were chanting " F U Vidor " ( I was sitting right next to them on the Kelly side )!  classless    I would not pay for my children to go to school there.

Wow....I can't believe Kelley's Fans would be chanting that!!!....I must have left when that happened(left after 1st qtr to catch a bit of Central).  Dakota looked pretty good...Ben Payton(was one of my Beaumont Bulls) looked good too.  I still can't believe the chant... :( :(

I just talked with my next door neighbor. He, his wife and all of his brothers graduated from Kelly and now his kids are all going to Kelly. He was at the game and sitting on the Kelly side, he was so embarrassed he and his wife got up found their kids and left the game because what was going on. He made the comment that, it's not the same Kelly when he graduated in 86.

My wife went to Kelly also, she did not go to the game last night, but she has talked with some of her friends that were there last night, they could not believe what was going on in the stands on the Kelly side.

Look, I was up and down everywhere except maybe that one little section where Kelly kids were all dressed in weird costumes.  Something may have come from those kids, but to say generally that the kelly fans/parents were chanting that stuff, is at best, a gross exaggeration.

One other thing, lots of knee high cut blocks from Vidor

They've been doing that since little league... >:(

So, you think we just had a couple of knuckle heads in the stands W.E??  I hope so.

"I believe I know the Kelley QB ...he left Westbrook after his freshman year, couldn't get any play time.  He moved to Kelley, didn't get play time there last year either....with defensive pressure early, he'll fall apart for most of the game." -SgtRey  ::)

Look, I can't say that nothing trashy was said.  But if it was, it was done by a very few kids, who obviously don't have the maturity to control themselves properly.  Everyone I saw was very respectful, cheering for the Vidor band, etc.   In fact, I saw the same from the Vidor fans.  I just hate it when someone comes on with a broad brush and tries to paint a whole community a something that they are not.

I'm not disagreeing with you in the least bit. But the Kelly chanting was provoked by the vidor stands shouting vulgar insults to Kelly players on the sidelines.

OK I hate to be the voice of reason but, Lets get back to talking about the game. There will aways be stupid people in the world. It does not matter what community you are in. Enough said! Great game though!

I agree.  Nothing to be gained.  Kelly played well, and Vidor played better.

I heard that one of the Kelly coaches manhandled a kid and cussed him out for making a mistake.  I heard parents were in the stands yelling for the coach to stop. Did anyone see that ?

I do not know about the cussing part because i was not able to hear what was said. sadly this is true, when one of the Kelly lineman ran off the field their coach met him half way, jerked him by the collar and forcefully escorted him to the sideline yelling the entire time. Definitely not the proper way to handle the situation, I believe some action should be take against this. Yes i know I am a Pirate fan but if Coach Mathews or anyone else on the staff were to touch one the players in that sort of manner I would want something to be done.
