Guest BIG HOUSE Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Friendswood by a couple scores...
Backflipper Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 [ Yes, actually Knightrider, its called Mustang Stadium one Friday night every other year. Remember, FHS has been there before and handed out a butt whipping -- or you so lame that you forget. This is like shooting fish in a barrel (or fishin with dynamite for you Dayton hicks) every year -- most of you Bronco losers post the same drivel as last year. How'd that work out for ya? HaHaHa!!!!! ;D ;D ;D How'd that work out for us?? I believe that we were watching our Bronco's play in the Alamodome while you were doing your Christmas shopping. Thats how that worked out for us.
txcanes Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Friendswood also scrimmaged Clear Brook, picked to either finish first or near the top in a tough district, and took care of them handily. Who knows how good either team is, will be fun.
xLmCoog88 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Well, I can't really comment on how good Dayton really is this year as I haven't looked too much into them as of yet but as for 'da wood they aren't as lethal a team as last year on offense but they haven't lost too many steps so it should make for an interesting game. From what I hear from Fatdaddy though is that their D is supposed to be pretty solid but it's really hard to tell based solely on a scrimmage against a Ball High team who runs a predominantly running offense but like us last year Ball is starting over with new coaches, new offense and a new defense. As for Bay City, they aren't exactly world beaters either as their program has been down in the dumps for the last 5-6 years so I wouldn't hang my hat on rolling over 'da wood based on that victory alone. Also, for the person who said that Dayton was in the Alamodome playing for a state title while 'da wood was Christmas shopping that's incorrect as they were playing in the other 4a division Championship vs. Lake Travis who was by far the best team in all classifications last year. It should be a good game though and I'm interested in seeing how their secondary is this year as they are yet to be tested so it's an unknown. I do hope that their run D has improved though as although they railroaded us last year our Freshman QB and Freshman RB ran all over them and put up big numbers in that high scoring affair which they eventually won. 24-4A is gonna be tough this year as even our bottom feeder Santa Fe is bringing back 18 starters from last years squad if I remember correctly? Angleton should win the district title but what's on paper isn't always what transpires on the field of play as Manvel, 'da wood, Dawson and yes even us all have legitimate chances at grabbing the crown. I'm not too sure about TC this year though as they appear to be a team that could cause upsets here and there throughout the district play and possibly grab the 4th playoff spot but I wouldn't bet the bank on that? Oh yea, I forgot about Brazosport who probably won't contend for the title but may grab the 4th playoff spot as well...4th spot is a toss up in 24-4A?
oldrock Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 To xLmcoog88 The Friendswood vs Lake Travis game was a Semi Final Game they did not make the finals.
FriendswoodFan Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 To xLmcoog88 The Friendswood vs Lake Travis game was a Semi Final Game they did not make the finals. Yes, but it was in the D1 tournament. Hey, maybe if they create a D3 tournament, the Broncos can win it all. Or, to guarantee things, work your whay into the Pop Warner playoffs, and you can play on New Year's Day! HaHaHa! Only Dayton fans celebrate near misses!!!!
xLmCoog88 Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 To xLmcoog88 The Friendswood vs Lake Travis game was a Semi Final Game they did not make the finals. I stand corrected, you are right, it was the semi-finals however Lake Travis would have rolled anyone in Texas last year as they did to Longview in the finals.

NDNWarrior Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Pullin for the Broncos on this one. Take it to 'em!
txcanes Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 That is a good one. Sulphur Springs better than Lake Travis. But please, both teams had great runs last year in different divisions. The national and state perception is that Lake Travis and Garrett Gilbert were one of the best teams and players in the nation. I share that perception after watching him dismantle my Friendswood team. I can tell you that Lake Travis was playing at a different level last year. Meanwhile - Friendswoodfan got a little over the edge last year and has started again - if you will remember, myself and another Friendswood rep intervened. Hope it stays calmer this year. We will enjoy the trip up to Dayton and the competition against a great team, do not spoil it on either side with ill thought out comments. Good luck - we will be ready! Go Stangs!

Did you see what Longview did to Allen Friday night? Longview (2008 4A D1 State Finalist) beat Allen (2008 5A D1 State Champ). I think Longview and Lake Travis will do very well again this year.

Sulphur Springs was good yes however they woulda got beaten also by LT as that Stud QB at Lake Travis was a Man amongst boys! Lastly, what were the scores in Finals vs. Sulphur Springs and when Dayton played 'da wood...just curious?

jayhawk Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Its nice to see some level headed Friendswood Fans over here making some good points. We hope to win this friday, but if we don't we will chalk it up to experience to thrust the Broncos towards the playoffs. Thats why we schedule good teams that bring the best out in us. It should be a great game best of luck to both !------My take on SS vs Lake Travis last year would be Lake T. Because I think they had one of the best defenses in the state always being overshadowed by their offense. Now lets hope LONGVIEW can kick their butt this year----GO BRONCOS---
liltex Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Don't get this kind of matchup often this early-Pollsters/Media/Scouts will eye this early season clash of 2 ranked teams not far apart in the polls.1 team will play better this Friday-both will learn from it-Can the Broncos win it?YES 13 straight playoff seasons means you have a great program and up for grabs is the bragging rights and a early article for Dayton in the Chronicle.
dayton Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Friendswood played a game like scrimmage against Galveston Ball last night, and it was a huge blowout. The offense, which has to replace a great QB and 2 great receivers, was humming along like always -- although a bit more balanced than during the JK years. The defense, which returns 8 starters, was absolutely dominant and lights out! I was expecting a lot more from Dayton against a pretty miserable Bay City squad. Given that result, and what I hear about the Broncos scrimmages, I expect a TYPICAL Mustang romp by 20 points or more! We both know that last year was not "TYPICAL". Anywho... good luck this friday.

Last year Sulphur Springs was the best team in 4A. I believe I would have to disagree with Coach Stewart on this. I know when he said this he was a year removed from our game against Lake Travis, but that Gilbert kid is one of the most impressive Quarterbacks I have ever seen High School, College, and Pros. Lake Travis would have beat anyone in the state last year.
fatdaddy Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 Friendswood has dominated in two scrimmages, vs Clear Brook, and Ball. Yes, Ball is probably in a down year, but Brook is picked to make the playoffs in a fairly tough 5A district. Friendswood is already operating very effectively, they are smooth! Looking at history, the Mustangs seem to hit their stride a little quicker every year than Dayton. We have played the Bronco's as a 1st game opponent for several years now, and have beaten them every game, yet Dayton has had actually more success in the postseason than we have. Some of that is because you have to be a bada$$ just to get out of our district (La Marque, Texas City, Angleton, and now Pearland Dawson and Manvel), and some of it is that Dayton just peaks a little later than we do. I don't think that either team has faced anybody like they will this Friday. We play each other because we both think we are one of the best in the State, and we want to play somebody else who lives at that level, to challenge ourselves and see how it turns out. I will still say Friendswood by 10, because I think we have more of our kinks worked out already, and no injuries yet. It would not surprise me at all to face the Bronco's later in the year, and here's hoping we do. But...Y'all better have some DB's that have a clue as to what they are doing! Good luck this season after Friday. GO MUSTANGS!

Dwack Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 I saw Rollison last year and he was very good, but he still is not Gilbert. We did not take near the defensive team to San Antonio as we did the year before to College Station. The 07 Defense was shutting people out and Gilbert made our very good defense look outmatched. I was impressed by Rollison but we will be watching that boy from Lake Travis play on Sundays someday.
B.M.F. Posted August 31, 2009 Report Posted August 31, 2009 You will see Rollison playing on sundays also. He's projected to play a half in Auburns opener.
