Lady Cardinals shackle Kirbyville in four

BRIDGE CITY — It was not the prettiest win but it was a win.

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals defeated the Kirbyville Lady Wildcats in four games by a score of 25-12, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-16.

The Lady Cardinals (5-4) were led by Sara McPherson who poured in 14 kills and four aces.

It was McPherson who made sure Bridge City would not have to deal with a fifth game.

McPherson went to serve with the game 3-2 in favor of the Lady Cardinals and tallied nine straight service points to put Bridge City up 12-2. She had four aces in the run.

Emily Kosh had a match-high 25 assists while Allison Angelle led everyone with nine digs. McPherson put in six.

Brooklyn Hogden and Marlee Lopez each had nine kills for the Lady Cardinals while Jordan Royal had six and Maggie Stump had five.

The Lady Cardinals were up 17-10 in the first game when Kosh went on a streak of six straight points to make it 23-10.

The first game ended when Kosh set McPherson for the final point.

Bridge City went up 3-0 in the second game and but was unable to ever really but away Kirbyville.

The Lady Wildcats took their first lead of the entire match at 21-20 after four straight Lady Cardinals’ errors.

Bria Thibodeaux came to serve for Bridge City with the game tied 21-21 and she never let Kirbyville back on serve.

Thibodeaux hit for four straight points, including an ace.

A final Kirbyville error gave Bridge City a 25-21 victory.

It was Kirbyville who took quick 3-0 before Stump put Bridge City up 4-3 with two straight kills.

The Lady Cardinals remained up and even held a 19-14 lead after a Lady Wildcats’ shot went out of bounds.

Kirbyville then started to take advantage of several Bridge City errors and tied the game at 23-23 when a Lady Cardinals’ shot hit the net.

Kirbyville went up 24-23 when a Bridge City hit went out of bounds and the Lady Wildcats took Game 3, 25-23, when Hope Cucancic had a kill.

The fourth game was all Bridge City after McPherson’s long run even after Kirbyville clawed back to within seven on two separate occasions.

Bridge City will now entertain Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Friday.
