Lumberton vs. Silsbee who wins?

I'll bite on this one. Still a week away but I think Lumberton can hang with the Tigers. I don't expect it to be a rout but I wouldn't be surprised at a possible 31-20 victory for the Raiders. There's a bit of a cross-town rivalry with this one that keeps it fairly close. Also, I don't know that Lumberton is among the strongest 4A squads in the area this season but I don't think Silsbee is among the weakest 3A schools either. Should be a good game. I remember when we beat Silsbee back in the mid 80's (our first district win I believe) and the fans tore down the goal posts. Don't expect to see that happening this time (ha).

Man idk lumberton squeaked by a weak bh team but silsbee loses 2 an equally weak diboll ???

I don't know if you were at the Lumberton-BH game last night but I don't know where you get that BH is a weak team. The BH team I saw last night was a pretty good football team and a lot better than the BH team Lumberton beat last year. So I wouldn't assume that just because Lumberton barely beat them that they are weak. BH could easily be sitting at 2-0 right now against 20-4A teams. From all accounts they should have beaten PNG last week.

I based it on the team I saw last year not being very good (I saw them play Lumberton last year come to think of it) and the people from BH on here saying their worse than last year.

Diboll got beat 49-0 in a scrimmage I think I read they have 3 returning starters and they lost to Kirbyville who Silsbee should be able to beat if their as good as they were last year.

Calm down, Lumberton.  I am not calling you weak, but any means.  As I have underestimated you and you have a 2 year winning streak on my squad.  I'm just saying that the Dibol may be a really good team this year, therefore, making Silsbee a team that can potentially beat you.  They do have the stud QB in Johnson.  That does not take away that you have an animal in Beard.  This will be a good game.  Plus, there is the rivalry factor.  BTW, word on the street is that Silsbee have been wanting a piece of L-Train for a while now... ;D

After two weeks of football, I don't think anyone has a clear view of where everyone is but a picture is starting to form. I don't know what the heck happened at Diboll. They lost some players but I expected them to rebound. Apparently they haven't. BH is not a slouch and I agree with those who say they could easily be 2-0. In fact, I thought they had a good shot at upending the Raiders last night. Fortunately, they didn't. Lumberton will be ready for Silsbee. I do think the rivalry factor comes in to play, which is why I didn't predict a blow-out but, were it not for that "strong" factor in high school football, I wouldn't hesitate to pick Lumberton BIG. However, a win by Silsbee Friday night would be a complete and utter surprise to most of the inhabitants of this place we call earth. But, this is high school football and stranger things have happened. Go RAIDERS!

Honestly I don't think most people would be shocked to see Silsbee win.

    • Regardless of the offense, kids need a reason or purpose to play football. Normally, for most kids, football is something they genuinely enjoy playing, because most players won’t be suiting up on Saturdays. At the end of the day, the most successful teams have kids and coaches that genuinely love the game and get joy and fulfillment playing it.  Vidor’s two current biggest issues are the lack of appeal to play the game and a lack of community support. The offense has been the same for years, and Mathews did a great job of getting the kids and community behind his teams year in and year out. Vidor’s whole identity was being a team you hated to play because you knew you were in for a long physical night. That made the game fun for the kids who played, and they took a lot of pride in it. Currently, I would argue that the toxic attitude of the community towards the offense and Dubois in general is the biggest thorn in the team’s side. The need for instant gratification from fans is what is fueling it all. When the players go home or out in the community and hear: how bad the offense is, how bad the defense is, or how bad the coaching is, the players will begin to lose pride in the program, and the game is no longer fun. This leads to discipline issues and players quitting. Vidor has lost their identity and Dubois and the offensive scheme isn’t the culprit. The Vidor community needs to leave their objections of who they hired at the door and let the man work if they wanna be successful in the future.
    • We will see i heard they pretty dam good 3 losses but all to great teams
    • Yes. May have been Jimmies. What I’m seeing is a lot more teams going back to more ‘traditional style’ offenses. These things go in cycles, and it’s very difficult for all but mega schools to consistently find QB’s who can really be effective with a true spread type offense year in and year out. I’d venture to guess most schools have an outstanding QB that can win a game almost on their own only every few years if that, and that’s what you need for the ‘high flying’ spreads. So coaches go for the O’s that they can groom the majority of kids to be successful running, and take advantage of the superstar’s skills more within that O when they get them.
