tvc184 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 I worked that construction job at the Keith Lake ramp for several months after Ike. Lots of boats, including some very large fiberglass ones, left out of there. I don't know if it is good or bad but I sure saw lots of boats almost every day.

Last time I used it was years ago with a 14 ft aluminum boat and remember it being shallow.

May have to try that........woould like to try crabbing in there I like crabbing in that fairly large (for out there) bayou or cut coming out of the left/south side of Johnson's Lake. I have caught as many as 30 dozen in one morning. I don't know if it has recovered from Ike or not but that was a killer spot. Go into that cut toward the old fish/duck camp. When it curves to the right is where we anchor off, just out of the current. That curve is pretty deep also compared to the surrounding area and has some good Redfish in it sometimes. You can sometimes see them come up and grab bait while you are crabbing.

tvc184 Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 It's always good for me. I can put you on the spot where I have caught thousands of crabs. Like I said, haven't been since Ike but I know where it was.

whsalum Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 We usually put in at Hansens and idle up to the fish pass. The bulk heads on both sides just before you get to the highway bridge will load up with flounder this fall.A lead head jig in white tipped with shrimp will do the trick.Like I said the boat we fish out of here is a 16 ft CC aluminum but it's not a junker by any stretch we just don't get in any big hurry when we're in Keith Lake. The next time I put in at Esthers I' ll PM you some GPS cordinates on where we catch our specks,we usually catch them on shad fished on a Carolina Rig.I like to go out there real early and fish to about daylight at times it can be awesome.

Any suggestions on where it is hot and what bait is hot right now will be appreciated.. Basketball starting soon...want to go as much as possible thanks guys Probably a little early. Need a decent cool front to come through to get the shrimp moving from the marsh. I would try the Louisiana shoreline. Run from Garrison's ridge north a ways and just look for hovering birds or lots of bait in the water. Good luck! If you see a few birds sitting togethor, stop and give it a try with plastic shrimp bouced along the bottom.
tvc184 Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Not too early. They just aren't at their peak yet. There may be some working and you might get lucky and see them. The birds will chase bait that is being chased by fish all summer. It just goes into a frenzy in the fall when the water starts cooling and the shrimp start making their annual trek to the Gulf. It is like the difference in a meal at home and an all you eat buffet. You eat every day but most people pack it in when it is "all you can eat".
