KFDM COOP Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Cude, Cardinals take Nederland Invitational Van Wade The Orange Leader NEDERLAND — Sparked by Tim Cude’s first-place finish, the Class 3A Bridge City Cardinals captured the Class 5A-4A Division at the Nederland Bulldog Invitational Cross Country Meet Saturday at a rain-infested Doornbos Park. Cude covered the nasty three-mile terrain in 17 minutes and 16 seconds. Nederland’s Trent Fulk was second with a time of 17:28. The Cardinals finished with 32 points, nipping the host Bulldogs, who had 39. Kirby Shepherd placed fifth for the Cardinals with a 18:09 followed by teammates Aron Lejeune (eighth, 18:23), Sawyer Hogan (ninth, 18:26); Luke Hebert (12th, 18:40); Armando Chavez (16th, 18:59) and Jose Chavez (19:05). “All of the times weren’t great today, but that was to be expected,†said Cardinal coach Cody Knight. “It was a very tough condition to run in and the course already has a lot of turns in it. I’m very proud of my kids. It was a good test for them, running against a good Nederland team.†Cardinal Eric Chesson ran in the 3A-and-Under Division and placed a solid third, running a 20:06. The Cardinal girls also ran “up†in the 5A-4A Division and finished second with 33 points, just behind first-place Barbers Hill (26). Mary Nguyen covered the two-mile course in 14 minutes to nab second. She was followed by teammates Jessica Franklin (third, 14:11), Megan Shockley (sixth, 14:33), Ariel Chesson (11th, 15:07), Courtney Meaux (14th, 15:20), Arron Valencia (18th, 15:31) and Lisa Huynh (22nd, 15:58). “We’re really proud of our girls,†said Knight. “For two weeks in a row, they’ve been edged out for first place but they’re running very, very well and have been so consistent.†Barbers Hill’s Larissa Rios won the event with a 13:54. Lady Cardinal Alex Holland ran in the 3A-and-Under Division, placing fourth with a 15:39 clocking. Knight and his wife were busy last week, watching their third child enter the world in daughter Avery Ruth. “It’s been a great week for the Knight family, with our new baby girl,†said Knight. “I’m proud of our kids, they stuck to the workout plan without me and went out and performed so well today. I’m super proud.â€
