no-look Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Who likes this press? Different from a 1-2-2?
Guest nostradamus Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 it's okay.....Jim Larranaga has some good videos on it....the biggest problem with the scramble is that it is more of a "1 and done" press...meaning.....one trap and if you don't get anything you are sprinting out of it....we tried to run it in Tatum with continual traps and there is just too much ground for kids to have to cover if you try to trap more than once out of it....the biggest problem is that it is not a speed dribble based trap so it creates much longer rotations.....
Guest DickVitale Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I wouldn't do it in the full court. To me, thats more of a half court trapping set. Less area to cover, just cant get beat in the middle of it. The middle of it needs constant attention in these types of sets.
Guest nostradamus Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 every defense needs the middle covered and paid attention to.....
Guest DickVitale Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Yes, but particularly in a 1-2-2 set, the middle is even more vulnerable.... :
Guest nostradamus Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 but the scramble is not a 1-2-2....it is man to man....it starts as a 1-2-2 look only because that is what most traditional offensive alignments start in but the rules are for the players to shape themselves to the offensive alignment and it has m2m principles
Guest DickVitale Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 I dont play it, so it really does not matter. I know what a 1-2-2 set is and what the holes in it are...Thats the part that I saw....1-2-2.

The point was working his azz off while the teamamtes seemed like they were playing cards on the other end of the court.

Yeah, Dove I had the same "old" coach that you did, and talked him out of that defense on many occasions as a player!!!!!

We better think about telling that coach how to run his team

I'm not sure how much basketball they know at HF. I've never watched the basketball high school games @ HF. Not sure if they will know what to do with their speed and quickness from those teams
Guest DickVitale Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Dove does not care...His kids will be attending private school in Houston... : : : Right, Dove?
whsalum Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 I love to watch the scramble when it's ran right. If you have the speed on the off side you and can make your first trap close to the baseline it can be very effective. You will give up some easy baskets as you do with any press but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
