After taking tabulations on its 20th class day, the official day for reporting purposes, Lamar University’s headcount for fall 2009 is 13,994, up 3.9 percent over last year’s 13,469 students.

Semester credit hours are also up at 130,608 compared to 130,137, an increase of .4 percent, said Kevin Smith, senior associate provost at Lamar.

On campus enrollment is up 5.8 percent over last year with 9,722 students taking classes on campus compared to 9,186 last fall. Of the students on campus, 8,108 are undergraduates, 1,472 are pursuing post-baccalaureate or master’s degrees, and 142 are pursuing doctoral degrees.

This fall, 4,272 students are enrolled exclusively in off-campus courses. Of those students, 254 are studying at off campus locations, 255 are dual-enrolled at Lamar and their high school, and 3,763 are taking courses via the Internet or other instructional technology system.

Lamar’s undergraduate enrollment is up 4.7 percent, Smith said.

Fall enrollments were 10,804 in 2004, 10,595 in 2005, 9,906 in 2006, 10,213 in 2007, and 13,280 in 2008.
