PhatMack19 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 That's on the coach. Why are the 2 kids even back there?
Guest rykerx144 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 That's on the coach. Why are the 2 kids even back there? you have to put them back there to cover the ball if its short cause its a live ball and if it stop before or in the endzone the kicking team can just pick it up and run it in. He done right by catching the ball he just forgot to kneel it or get out of bounds.
BigWolf10 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 talking about an adrenalin rush ;D poor kid, that'll hunt him for a while. And ESPN, youtube and all the other national networks are not doing him any favors either. :'( :-[ :
PhatMack19 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Rykerz the ball is dead if never touched by the defense, the offense can't recover and run it in. The game is over if they stay away from the ball. Remember Leon Lett against the Dolphins?
Guest rykerx144 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 on a punt yes! but i believe a field goal is live !
Hupernikomen Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 on a punt yes! but i believe a field goal is live ! Field goals are live balls as far as I know, not sure about what happens if they are partially blocked and go beyond the line of scrimmage.
vp93 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 A field goal attempt is not live once it crosses the line of scrimmage unless the defensive team touches it.
vhs Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 Every article I read about this video said if the defender would have stayed away from it its a dead ball, game over.
PANTHERPLAYA09 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 ya punts are different than FG's. wow this guy has to feel pretty dumb. I bet he got beatup.
Hupernikomen Posted October 3, 2009 Report Posted October 3, 2009 A field goal attempt is not live once it crosses the line of scrimmage unless the defensive team touches it. Yeah that sounds right. So why do teams put a person back deep in the end zone on long field goal attempts?
vp93 Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 A field goal attempt is not live once it crosses the line of scrimmage unless the defensive team touches it. Yeah that sounds right. So why do teams put a person back deep in the end zone on long field goal attempts? They can be returned just like a punt. Also, just like a punt it isn't live until it is touched by the defensive team.
Birddog Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 Field goals and punts are scrimmage kicks. Think about a punt that the receiver let roll and the kicking team is going to down it inside the 5. Same goes for a field goal attempt, both are scrimmage kicks. In the video they are using HS Federation rules. In Texas we use NCAA rules. There are some major differences. 6-3-2-a No inbounds player of the kicking team shall touch a scrimmage kick that has crossed the neutral zone before it touches an opponent. Such illegal touching is a violation that, when the ball becomes dead, gives the receiving team the privilege of taking the ball at the spot of the violation
