Scales powering Lady Bobcat net squad

ORANGEFIELD — Aimee Scales has been around Orangefield High School for what seems like forever.

Now that the district volleyball season has started, Scales is slowly starting to realize the run is almost over.

Scales has been on the varsity level in just about every sport for four years. She has become a mainstay in the starting lineups for what seems like a decade.

“I am actually starting to get sad,†Scales said. “This is all I do. My senior year is going by a lot faster than I ever imagined. I kind of wish we were at non-district again so I would have more time.â€

The Lady Bobcats have made serious strides in volleyball over the last several years and Scales has been a big part of the turnaround and the team currently site alone at the top of the District 21-3A standing at 3-0 after downing rival Bridge City in four games Friday night at Bobcat Gym.

Scales has played volleyball ever since she was in seventh grade and has grown to love her Lady Bobcats teammates.

“I like how in this sport you really have to work together to finish the job,†Scales said. “We all have input in the matches. Before we would just run out there and go play. Now we all have certain spots to be in and it is working out.â€

Scales for three years sat back and had to listen as other seniors had the upper voice. This season it has been Scales who has lifted her voice to lead Orangefield.

“I love being the one who has a voice,†Scales said. “I always listened to the past seniors and now it is my turn. These are the best girls in the world to have as teammates. They listen more than any other team I have ever been on.â€

Scales and the Lady Bobcats are off to a great start in District 21-3A play and are hoping to make the playoffs again, this team maybe go even farther than last year.

“You always want to get off to a good start,†Scales said. “We want to push for our first goal of a district championship and then go farther in the playoffs than we did last year. This year our district is harder than ever. There is so much talent on every team. If we play like I know we are capable of playing, I think we will be alright.â€

Good article Gabe! Having such good people to write about makes your job easier doesn't it?

What makes my job so easy is knowing Aimee the way I do. We talk in the stands at football games, she's not afraid to say hello and just mingle for a few minutes. I have grown to enjoy that and have always made it a point to be a reporter who does more than just write stories. It helps in these situations and also allows me to get to know the players more than most reporters try to. I have the best job on the planet.

Awesome article about Aimee. She has always been a team player and that's what it is all about. I have always said we are fortunate in Orange County to have the Orange Leader. They have been recognizing young people for 50 or more years. I still subscribe and always will. I canceled my subscription to the Beaumont Enterprise.
