KDOSullivan Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Mercifully, thankfully, the 2009 Astro's season comes to an end.......The question is this gentlemen ( and ladies), will it get any better in 2010? Or will we have more of the same? ( Which is what I expect, another year of disappointment.)
Chester86 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 The Astros are sort of like the Aggies.....every year I get my hopes up only to have them dashed early and often.
Ruckdad Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 All is well fellas - The Astros just signed a one year extension for that juggernaut of a starting pitcher - Brian Moehller!
EAGLE07 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 All is well fellas - The Astros just signed a one year extension for that juggernaut of a starting pitcher - Brian Moehller! Awesome...I fell better already. Nothing will change as long as Uncle D owns the team. He owns the team, so it's his call. My call is to quit watching and attending games....haven't watched or seen an Astro game in 3+ weeks.......and counting. Sad. >
Ruckdad Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 The thing is - I don't have a problem with Drayton the owner. He has shown a willingness to go after players when the team is in the hunt - Beltran, Johnson, to name a few. However, he needs to stay out of the baseball operations and let his baseball men do their jobs. You can't tell me that Ed Wade really wanted to sign Moehller to an extension, but Drayton has likely handcuffed him. Bottom line is this team is several drafts away from being a legitimate year in and out contender as they were in the late 90s and early 00s.

scooter Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 > Face it this year stunk up the park###@$@)#%*()!@%* and next year looks to be worse than this year. Unless they can pull off a miracle.
Guest falcons Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 All is well fellas - The Astros just signed a one year extension for that juggernaut of a starting pitcher - Brian Moehller! Three million. ???
Vidor50 Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 This team should have been blown up at the all-star break. Should have got rid of Tejada, Valverde, Pudge ( which we did) & Hawkins. we could have gotten some value for them, and wouldnt have done any worse. As far as next year, i dont dont see a way we make play-offs, so we might as well make the changes we can. Manager: I think it will come down to Acta, Bogar & Willie Randolph. My guess is Acta. 1st : Berkman has a full no-trade clause so he is there. Erstad bye. Keep Coste as back-up there and catcher. 2nd: Matsui has a limited no-trade ( but nobody is gonna take him) so he is there. He'll miss 50 games anyway so Maysonet will get plenty of starts and his chance, also could back-up short. SS: Tejada gone. Manzella gets the chance, hopefully his defense is like Everett but better bat. Maysonet back-up. 3rd : Platoon Keppinger and Johnson. Blum gone. Keppinger could also back-up short and 2nd. C: Quintero gone. Platoon Coste & Towles and pray Castro is what they hope. OF: Lee has full no-trade through 2010 so he is there, Pence gets a big raise, Bourn does too. Bogusevic can be there to push. Rotation: Oswalt has full no -trade so he's there (although he may wave to go toa team like the Yankees), Wandy gets big raise, Norris deserves his chance, they already re-uped Moehler, so its either Paulino or a cheap free-agent. Bullpen: Gervacio,Arias,Fulchino & Wright past that its open. ???
scooter Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 I agree it is time to build this team up from the kids and a few small trades for younger players. I know it will be a tough few years for McClain but it would be fun to see these kids playing their way into full time players.
