LITTLE CYPRESS — They had their mettle tested early on but the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears made sure they were going to maintain their first-place status in the District 20-4A volleyball standings Tuesday night.

Fourth-place Nederland pushed the Lady Bears to the limit in the first two games but LC-M poured it on in the end to notch a 24-26, 25-22, 25-11, 25-12 victory at The Bear Cave.

Senior Christine Sicktich powered the way at the net for the Lady Bears (26-7, 9-1) but had plenty of help from fellow senior hitters Ashton LaVergne and Shelby Apperson.

Sicktich finished with a match-high 14 kills while LaVergne posted 13 and Apperson 12.

Sicktich also had a “smooth†service game, notching 16 kills to go along with eight aces. Allison Walker claimed 11 points and four aces. Elissa Tate had a solid all-around performance, collecting nine points, four kills and an ace. Shelby Sanchez served up eight points and two aces. Shelby Tucker contributed six points and Kalyn Harkness has three points and an ace.
