Fact is there are plenty of "people" lurking in the fringes waiting to trash WOS for any reason. The ambulance chasers, high speed car chase watchers, and rubber-neckers of the world smell blood. Fingers are primed and ready to tear down a kid and program for a stupid mistake. We took a lot of heat for our 5 kids last year, heck people still make comments about it. Bottom line is, it makes some people feel better about themselves if they can trash someone else.

You Sir, have just hit the proverbial nail on the head.

yes your correct.  I wasnt referring to this site should handle anything different.  I think this site has done a very good job of handling this situation.  I was more referring to the maybe the school district or local athorities could be providing this information.  There is no doubt in my mind that it is being handled correctly and promptly but the silence to some is an indication of instant cover up.  Alot of people and several on here esp think with the conspiracy theory attitude and assume cover up. I just was hoping that the local authorities could start filling in some of the gaps without hurting their investigation.  Its just my opinion but I think it would help shut some of these people up!

Yeah, but caution is being used by all for the very same reason.  The school district, local media and local authorities want to make sure that ALL ducks are in a row before proceeding with public disclosure.  They are investigating, re-investigating and then triple checking their facts.  As I understand that those involved are lawyered up, it is the only prudent course for these entities to take.  They want to make sure they are protected....curiousity of the viewing public is of very little concern to them at this point.

School boards , schools, law enforcement, have to take everything very carefully when dealing with young adults,   the phrase "kids will be kids" really doesn't cut it in our society any more, because it soon becomes "adults will be adults"  .  One suspension will seem out of line "as the young 6 years old with the camping utensil"  while the same suspension would seem to lenient " as with a youngster bringing a gun to school"  but both are the same violation, both carry the same punishment.  so does the school just make up the punishment as they go?  every case has its own set of circumstances, and the school has to go by the law, until it can be discussed at a board meeting.  let the board decide what the next step is, that's what they get paid for.

Man talk about a run on sentence.

This whole thing is confusing as to why the school is involved. As far as I know law enforcement isn't involved. If any of this has changed I guess it will come out sooner or later. Obviously only the kids know the whole truth.

The news article I read this morning stated that the player is suspended from the team but not from school.

???

Like I said, maybe it's not a school issue. I'm not saying one way or the other, but, if whatever this is didn't happen at school, how can you suspend them from school?

If it's not a school issue, then why does it need a school board meeting to solve it?

I have been informed as to what happened and I will not discuss it. But the media and the school is not helping matters with the statements being made.

As far as I am concerned, this never should have been a story. Mostly political.

I don't know what happened.  I don't know what the kids did or didn't do.

I know this. I'm tired of seeing kids get into hot water situations that will have an bad impact on their future.

I miss problems like....getting in trouble for taking a few of Mr. Jones watermelons.  I can deal with that one!

Or like hanging a couple of 10 and 8 pound catfish halfway down someone's chimney. ;D

That's a great question. Do you have an answer for it?

I'm not real sure what part politics plays in the whole thing but everyone has an opinion.

Personal opinion....the schools and school boards try to have too much power off school grounds.  The schools should educate our kids period.... and let the parents (or authorities) handle off campus activities.  I think the mystery is what has gotten everyones attention.

TD, this is taken straight from WOS handbook, I am just saying:

OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Radios, CD Players, Cell Phones, and Other Electronic Devices and Games

“Telecommunication device†is any device that emits an audible signal, vibrates, displays a message, or

otherwise summons or delivers a communication to the possessor, including cell phones and pagers. The District

prohibits the visible display of a telecommunication device during regular school hours while the student is on school

property unless prior approval is obtained from the principal. No student shall possess or control a telecommunication device (pagers, cellular phones, laser pointers, CD players, radios, stun guns or cameras, games, etc.) that is turned on during regular school hours while the student is on school property. Students who violate this policy shall be subject to established disciplinary measures. District employees shall confiscate any device that is turned on during regular school hours. Parents shall be notified after the device is confiscated that the device may be released to the parent for a fee of $15.00 or the device will remain in the possession of the school for a period of 30 days, after which it may be released to the parent or disposed of. [see policy FNCE]

    · Electronic equipment is subject to search in the event school administrators believe reasonable suspicion exists

      to support the search.

    · Cell phones are prohibited from testing environment.

    · Cell phones or any device that permits recording the voice or image of another in any way that either            disrupts the educational environment, invades the privacy of others, or is made without the prior consent of the individuals being recorded is prohibited.

Inappropriate Use of Technology

Students are prohibited from sending or posting electronic messages that are abusive, obscene, sexually oriented,

threatening, harassing, damaging to another’s reputation, or illegal. This prohibition applies to conduct off school property if it results in a substantial disruption to the educational environment. Any person taking, disseminating, transferring, or sharing obscene, sexually oriented, lewd, or otherwise illegal images or photographs will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct and may, in certain circumstances, be reported to law enforcement.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, if this happened off grounds the only way they should be involved is if it disrupted the education environment. I'm not arguing either side. I'm just posing a question. Again, as far as I know there are no authorities involved.

??? We never had any issues exploited like this when I was in school, but we didnt have cell phones yet either. Dont know what happened so im not going to speculate. As far as someone saying school's shouldnt have authority over non school activities, but some people need to realize it might be the only authority figure they have and an education doesnt just mean math or grammar it also means dicipline and guidance for your adulthood. JMO.

So how do you determine if the school should or shouldn't be involved? In this case the parents are very involved. Are you wanting the school to discipline over the parents? If not where do you draw the line. We can't have it both ways. You can't have the school determine if they are the only authority or not, or if the parent isn't making the right choice for the child. I have to say I disagree with what you are saying. The school is responsible for discipline at school and at school functions and or events not what happens at home or away from campus on the weekends. Now code of conduct policies I do understand. However, I also believe in the fact that the government already has too much power. Less is more.

Well we didnt have to worry about the school or our parents, it was coach T. That man found out what we did everytime we did it. If we went to a party on a Sat night, he knew on Monday and believe me, we had to pay. Of course it didnthelp that I was running with his son either. haha

Same thing with Coach Andy but that was a Coach personally handling a code of conduct situation. Not a school board.........

I see what your saying. I just think the school should have some pull over the dicipline of a kid outside of school.

    • If your point was to lie about me, you succeeded. Congratulations. You must feel like a winner, aka Harry Reid.
    • Read it all - good info - thanks
    • Two political opponents pointing to each other and calling each other a liar…..  Is like two roosters fighting  and then pointing to the other and calling him a chicken.
    • Trump was indicted for his activities on January 6. He appealed the indictment to the District Court (trial court) and the way I read it, they pretty much said he has no immunity, period. So he appealed to the Circuit Court which is not a trial court, but is a constitutional court one step below the US Supreme Court. Both the District Court and the Circuit Court denied even reviewing the case. I believe they simply said that a former president has no such immunity. The US Supreme Court then took up the case on a constitutional basis. Remember at this point there has been no trial so no facts of the case have come out. It has been only appeals on the constitutionality of immunity. The Supreme Court ruling today said that the president has absolute immunity for constitutional authority (conclusive and preclusive).  What that means to me is, if it’s something the Constitution gives him the authority to do, he absolutely cannot have charges filed against him. An easy example that I can think of is the Constitution makes him the commander-in-chief of the military. So if a president authorizes the military to do something such as Reagan authorizing the bombing of Libya in retaliation for terrorist attacks, the president cannot be sued or held to criminal charges because some civilians in Libya got killed. That is his authority as commander-in-chief and protection of the country. The Supreme Court then ruled that the president has presumed official acts immunity. A presumption under law in a case such as this means that it is assumed that the person accused, such as a president, is not guilty. The presumption is that he followed the law. The presumption does allow however for the prosecution to try and prove by a preponderance of the evidence that the presumption does not exist. The person accused does not have to prove anything. The president does not have to prove that he had immunity. The prosecution has to prove that more likely yes than no that he didn’t have immunity. So technically there’s an opening to prosecute but you start out with the presumption that the person accused is not guilty with nothing to prove. As an example, the president has wide authority in many areas including issuing some executive orders. Those are authorities as official acts. If the president was to do something like order the unjustified jailing of a political opponent in an upcoming election and order the opponent held in Gitmo to keep from campaigning, that would not be included under an official act immunity. So it is possible to overcome the presumption of immunity but it will take quite a bit of work.  The president has no immunity whatsoever that is outside of constitutional authority or an official act. As an example of the president gets drunk and manages to sneak past his Secret Service bodyguard. He gets in the car and drives DWI and kills someone. That is not covered under an official act so he could be held accountable for a homicide. So…. For constitutional authorities, the president has absolute immunity. For an official act, he has presumed immunity. Anything outside of a constitutional or official act, such as driving DWI, has no immunity. In this ruling the Supreme Court vacated the indictment because the District Court, and the Circuit Court did not even consider immunity. The Supreme Court did not clear Trump because at this point they have not even heard the evidence. All they issued was a constitutional ruling that the lower courts have to at least consider immunity under the rule that they just established. Therefore the case goes back to the prosecution to bring a case at the trial court level and try to prove that whatever Trump is accused of, it was not an official act. Certainly the DOJ could read this Supreme Court ruling and drop the case, saying that they cannot overcome immunity. I’m not going to hold my breath, waiting for the DOJ to come to that conclusion. Simply disagreeing with a president actions does not disprove immunity. I disagreed with some of the things that Biden did such as ordering vaccines for some workers. Some of that was appealed and the courts threw out some of those mandates, especially under OSHSA. I don’t think Biden could be prosecuted however for issuing an executive order to one of his federal agencies because that is probably covered under an official act immunity. Not liking it does not automatically qualified as a crime. Therefore…. Can the DOJ try to again get an indictment against Trump and try to prove in court that he is not covered by one of the immunities listed? Yes. The Supreme Court  has stated that under their ruling absolute immunity must be taken into consideration for a constitutional act and presumed immunity must be taken into consideration for an official act. Let’s just say that the DOJ pushed this case again and convince the trial court and the appeals court that Trump has no immunity and they get a criminal conviction. At their discretion, the Supreme Court can take this case up again since the trial would have been held and the Supreme Court could see how the lower courts came to their conclusion. The Supreme Court could agree that with the lower courts that there was no immunity and a conviction stands or they could say, y'all weren't paying attention to our ruling and they can throw the whole case out. If you don’t want to read all of that……  To date the ruling is, yes a former president has immunity from what he did in office and by law that must be taken into consideration under the rules that the Supreme Court just set. The rest will play out in the future.
