Nigel Dawes' unassisted goal early in the third period broke a tie and ensured the Rangers' third win in three preseason games. Dawes scored at the 2:16 mark, just 11 seconds after Ari Vallin scored to pull Florida into a 2-2 tie. Prucha scored his first goal at 6:59 of the first, off assists from Brendan Shanahan and Fedor Tyutin, and made it 2-1 at 14:05 of the second on a play set up by Thomas Pock and Marek Malik. Florida's Steve Montador opened the scoring at 2:12 of the first. Al Montoya and Stephen Valiquette split time in goal for the Rangers. Montoya made nine saves in relief of Valiquette, who stopped eight shots. Both allowed one goal. Alex Auld made 30 saves for Florida, winless in five preseason games. The Panthers have been outscored 17-9 in those defeats, and have managed more than two goals in only one of those games.
