KFDM COOP Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 BC CC units excel at Lufkin Invitational Van Wade The Orange Leader LUFKIN — The Bridge City cross country squads placed very well at the Lufkin Cross Country Invitational last weekend. Both squads competed very well against Class 5A and Class 4A competition along with some top-notch 3A programs. The Cardinal boys placed third as a team in their division with 78 points, finishing just behind Humble Atascocita (39) and Lufkin (59). There were 11 teams in the field and 84 runners. “The guys were able to finish ahead of region rival (Lufkin) Hudson, who has won the last three regional titles,†said Bridge City cross country coach Cody Knight. “And the girls were able to finish right behind Hudson, who is defending girls champs as well. All of the kids ran great and are extremely excited about the next two meets.†Tim Cude covered the three-mile course in 16 minutes and 12 seconds to finish a solid second in the 5A/4A varsity boys division. He was followed by teammates Kirby Shepherd (10th, 16:53); Aaron Lejuene (18th, 17:12); Sawyer Hogan (26th, 17:25); Armando Chavez (29th, 17:29); and Jose Chavez (46th, 18:30). Matthew Wappler placed 33rd in the 3A-and-under division, running an 18:21 while Eric Chesson was 38th with a 18:35 in a field of 148 runners. Jessica Franklin led the Lady Cardinals, running the two-mile course in 13:26 to place fifth among 60 runners in the 5A/4A division. She was followed by teammates May Nguyen (17th, 13:47); Ariel Chesson (27th, 14:08); Meagan Shockley (28th, 14:13); Alex Holland (31st, 14:19); Courtney Meaux (33rd, 14:31); and Lisa Huynh (50th, 15:31). Barbers Hill (57) won the team title while the Lady Cards were a solid fourth with 94. Adriane Cude was 82nd in the 3A-and-under division with a 16:13 and Rosemary Truong was 84th with a 16:13 as well. Both Cardinal teams look to defend their District 21-3A titles Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Claiborne Park. “We look forward to taking this Saturday off,†said Knight. “The kids are looking forward to the district meet and then to see what they can do at regionals.â€
