LITTLE CYPRESS — Keeping their eyes on the prize, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears made quick work of the Vidor Lady Pirates in District 20-4A action at The Bear Cave Tuesday night.

The first-place Lady Bears rode a strong service game to dispatch the Lady Pirates 25-10, 25-6, 25-10.

Two more wins with two matches left would give the Lady Bears their second straight 20-4A crown.

LC-M (28-7, 11-1) scored 58 of their 75 points while serving to the Lady Pirates (2-10 in 20-4A play). The Lady Bears also tallied 14 aces.

“We’ve been missing on a lot of our serves lately so it was great to see the kids come up big tonight,†said Lady Bear coach Vicki Castino. “I was proud of how well we played in each game. Vidor gave us a good match at their place last time and they pushed Ozen to five games last week, so we knew we had to come out playing well early tonight and we did.â€

Senior Christine Sicktich led the powerful serving arsenal as she finished with 19 points and four aces including 14 straight that helped seal Game Two. Junior Kellie Tilley notched 13 points and three aces and closed out the match with 10 straight points in Game Three.

Senior Shelby Sanchez pumped in 11 points and a match-high five aces. Allison Walker claimed nine points and an ace. Kalyn Harkness had four points. Elissa Tate had two points and an ace and Michelle Rigsby added a point.

Offensively the Lady Bears were led by Sicktich and Shelby Apperson, who posted seven kills apiece. Ashton LaVergne and Amy Laughlin contributed five kills apiece while Megan Kemp had four and Tate two.

Kasi Emerson and Miranda Rider paced the Lady Pirates with four kills each. Whitney Gau had three kills while Kaitlyn Glass added two.

Ashton Lewis served up five points and two aces. Rider had three points and two aces and Krista Powell finished with three points.

The Lady Bears entered Tuesday’s contest a game up in the 20-4A standings over both Beaumont Ozen and Port Neches-Groves with two matches left.

LC-M visits fifth-place Lumberton Friday before entertaining Ozen next Tuesday for a showdown on Senior Night.

“It’s not going to be easy going to Lumberton Friday,†said Castino. “The thing about this district is that anybody can beat anyone on any certain night. We didn’t overlook Vidor tonight and we’re going to have to do the same Friday because Lumberton has a good little team.â€
