AggiesAreWe Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I was at the 1977 game that set the record. Nice to be part of history. ;D
liltex Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Nice-Wasn't some of those games Double Headers though?
NDN79 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 The Garland vs Katy game was a double header--PN-G played afterward

It was the only game played that day at Texas Stadium.
Englebert Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I was also at the Plano/PNG game, and the Hous Kashmere/PNG game 1977. I was at the Stephenville/PNG game in 1999, which followed the Garland/Katy game. We got to the Astrodome at 10:30am when the doors opened just so we would get a good seat for the PNG game following the Garland/Katy game. Garland was on the same side that PNG would be on, so we sat on their side (even though I was pulling for Katy). The Garland fans started showing up around 11:30am and found they had to sit on the 20's to the endzones because of the sea of purple in "their" seats. They were not a happy crowd about that. But they defeated Katy, which probably prevented a riot.
NDN79 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thanks Englebert--I knew that PN-G'S game followed the Katy vs Garland game, just didn't realize that it was the '99 state game.I too have been fortunate enough to have attended all of PN-G'S record games. Lots of memories and fun! Hopefully we can set some more attendance records this year in the play-offs!

liltex Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I like.I also like all the support Dayton and Central got from other schools that followed them through the playoffs just last year. Was nice to see them in their school colors.
badndn Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 The game in 99 may have been a double header, but I got pictures that proove that most of that 39K was purple. Pictures show 1/2 of the dome purple from top (yes they opened the upper deck) to bottom. I will say that if Nederland made the big dance they would also be in this mix, because just about everyone I know from PNG including myself would be there.

Jackthehammer Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I guess the Purple People eaters spit all those people back out for playoff games. Congrats Indians thats awsome. Whats the deal about the sign that they used to hang going out of town or something like that.
PNG Proud Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Jack, back in 74, when we started our run of the 70's, allot was being said about the town (PN) being deserted come game time. So someone (poss. the mayor) hung a sign on the hwy sign headed out of town that said "Will the last one out of town please turn off the lights"
Jackthehammer Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Thats pretty darn cool. Turn out the lights. Id really like to see the light out this year maybe someone could reproduce the sign for this seasons playoffs.
Let’sGetAlong Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 PNG is actually 3 of the top 8. I was in school during the '99 game and I remember that half of the dome was packed. I wonder what the #'s would have been if Stephenville would have filled their side.
PhatMack19 Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Stephenville didn't bring many fans but they were loud, shaking those propane tanks. I sat in the upper deck in the endzone, next to the divider that split the Dome. That was the only seat I could find on the PNG side. Sure hope some area team makes a run like that this year.
liltex Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 I believe they were used freon cylinders w/steel ball bearings inside.Non-Flammable residue inside plus thinner metal. But boy they were loud in the Stephenville/LaMarque gm.in the Dome.Bay City has them but not like the yellow jackets.
raideroldtimer Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 You should've just dug through the archives, this exact same subject was brought up last year. Are you PNG folks going to remind everyone of this each year? When you beat this record then it'll be a good time to repost.

Great tradition and pride from the community!

We aren't a big town, but we do travel well.....and we are loud!

stevieray Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Can you imagine how loud it would get if everyone from PNG had a can or propane tank filled with ball bearings?
