MONT BELVIEU — The Bridge City Lady Cardinals’ first playoff victory in two years was a nailbiter as they held on to defeat the Huffman Lady Falcons 25-13, 25-12, 22-25, 25-21 in the Class 3A Region III bidistrict playoffs at Barbers Hill High School Tuesday night.

Senior Emily Kosh had an amazing 38 assists to pace the Lady Cardinals (20-16).

The 21-3A runnerup Lady Cardinals will face District 24-3A champion Caldwell in the area round.

Bridge City breezed through the first game as Maggie Stump closed it out with six straight service points.

Stump was again deadly with her serve in Game Two as she put together nine straight service points to put the Lady Cardinals up 15-3.

Huffman (25-13), the District 22-3A third-place team, could never recover as Bridge City stormed to the 25-12 win.

Bridge City allowed Huffman to get back in the match in Game Three with 15 hitting errors.

Huffman’s Shelbee Pier got hot in Game Three and finished the match with 10 kills. Bridge City had to rally in Game Four after being down 21-20. The Lady Cardinals got a kill from Jordan Royal, who finished with 11 kills. Allison Angelle finished off the match with four straight service points as the last Huffman shot went out of bounds.

Brooklyn Hogden had a match-high 14 kills to power the Lady Cardinals while Sara McPherson collected 11 kills.

Stump finished with seven kills and finished with a whopping 20 service points. McPherson led Bridge City with 26 digs. Kosh had 14 digs while Angelle and Bria Thibodeaux had 11 and Stump had 10.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats dropped a four-game decision to Splendora in their Class 3A bidistrict playoff match.

The Lady Bobcats were the third-place team out of 21-3A while Splendora was the 22-3A runnerup.

A very good write-up Gabe...
BC team and Coaches played the Falcons like a fiddle for the first two games, discovering slight weaknesses to exploit.
Huffman had good coaching and some extreme Select tall players who came back for game #3 with a win.
In the fourth game the Cardinals were able to adjust and work a host of long volleys into points that led to a sound overall win for the night.

Superb conditioning, intelligent split-second decisions made up above the net; plus, having 5 players with good spiking ability being both wisely and selectively employed; led to a playoff advancement.  Congrats....
