This is the Baytown Sun article in the paper today:

Barbers Hill

The Eagles will put their 3-0 mark on the line Friday in their first district game in 4A. The Hill will host a Forest Brook team, which enters the contest with a 1-2 record on the season.

“They are very athletic,†BH head coach Don Price said. “They like to spread it out and get the ball to their athletes in space. It’s hard to tell how we match up with them but I think we match up ok.â€

Forest Brook enters the game averaging a little over 248 yards a game and will face a challenge in the Barbers Hill defense. Offensively the Eagles will see a 4-3 set with an opportunity to get mismatches against the Forest Brook linebackers.

While the Eagles will enter the contest with a couple of key players out, the off week did give other players a chance to heal up from nagging injuries suffered over the first three weeks of the season.

The game will be a new experience for Barbers Hill in the fact that will see most of their opponents for the first time. Aside from Huffman, the Eagles will face their district opponents for the first time, although they did scrimmage Crosby last season.

“It’s new to us,†Price said. “The kids are excited about it and so are the coaches.â€

Crosby

After suffering a heartbreaking loss to Dickinson on the last play of the game, Crosby was ready to hit the field and get the bitter taste out of their mouth. Instead, the Cougars have had to wait due to an off week. The wait will come to an end Friday when they travel to Smiley to take on a 2-1 Eagle squad.

“Off weeks are good in the fact you get to heal up,†CHS head coach Kevin Flanigan said. “But I don’t like it. I don’t like to get out of our rhythm. And it’s hard to tell until you get into the fire, how much you have improved on things.â€

The area the Cougars will look to get out to a quicker start. In the first three games of the season, Crosby has allowed scoring drives on their opponents first offensive series.

“We need to improve on defensive consistency,†Flanigan said. “We have played good in the second half but we need to play better at the beginning of the game.â€

Smiley will attack the Crosby defense with a Pro-I, option attack.

“They are not a real pound it in team,†Flanigan said. “Last year I think they threw the ball more when we played them. We are going to have to play assignment football.â€

Offensively, Crosby will work against a 4-3 alignment. In the game against Dickinson the Cougars saw a lot of improvement in their running attack and will look to build on it.

“We want to be 50/50,†Flanigan said. “We did run more against Dickinson but we were also averaging over five yards a carry. We are going to continue to improve through repetition.â€
