Mc Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 ASA Rule changes for 2010....*Once a player participates in an intercollegiate softball program for a university, college, or junior/community college, she is ineligible to play in the Junior Olympic Gold Program. NO MORE COLLEGE PLAYERS IN GOLD, THINK IT DOES ALLOW THEM TO PLAY 18U, BUT NOT 18U B*ASA Gold 18-Under Fast Pitch. This National Championship Final shall be scheduled to conclude on the first Saturday in August and not be scheduled more than seven (7) days. This event will not have an opening ceremonies event and the managers meeting cannot be scheduled prior to 6:00 PM on the prior Sunday. OF LOCAL INTEREST, THE CURRENT DATES OVERLAP THE IFA NATIONALS*The Junior Olympic Girls 18 and Under Gold Fast Pitch will be rotated to Oklahoma City every third year and in the off years will be placed in other parts of the country by the Executive Director.*16U and 18U/Gold can now wear metal cleats.I think all these changes addressed the complaints that lead to the founding of the "Premier Tournament".
coxjj Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Also ...Pitching Distance Change for 16-U A&B FP to 43 feet. Pitching Distance Change for 18-U B FP only to 43 feetSo, this means that 18U A remains 40 feet?Combine that with college players can play 18U only in the "A" division means you'll have college players playing 18U A with a pitching distance of 40 feet? Am I missing something here?
Mc Posted November 16, 2009 Author Report Posted November 16, 2009 This lists new rule changes. 18A was already at 43 ft.
Guest shake and bake Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 The College girls are going to be scrambling for playing time this summer if they can put together a team. They will be able to play IFA and some of the other tournaments but not ASA GOLD.

As it stands right now, there is no place for them to play unless you live in the northeast.

I guess they allowed the college players in 18U A since 23U is not available in many places and gives the college players some place to play in ASA next year. Keeping them out of 18U Gold I guess was in response to the Premier Tournament.
CRUSHCOACH Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 I wonder what will become of the "Premier Tournament " ??? ??? ???
Guest shake and bake Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Has any organization ever tried to have a "college only " division or do you think they could get enough players to play even with a limited schedule?

From what I've seen, it seems most college players return to the team they "graduated" from, either because it was arranged before they left, or was just an easy way for the college player to come back to an established team where they knew the coaches and some/all of the players.I guess that's what the 23U division is essentially for, but I've only heard of the 23U division, I've never seen or read anything about any actual tournaments, but that's just me ... I'm sure it exists somewhere.
JohnnyT60 Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 23U in the Northeast. Here is how it is going to work.OC & GTS aren't going to have two 18 teams. One with college players palying 18U and one playing 18 Gold. They will probably have one or the other, and there are plenty of programs around just like that. Kind of a squeeze on the samller programs. Will it force someone to abandon there returning college players? The big programs will probably field two teams, one for each purpose, in fact have heard that one Houston Club has done just that.I just think this makes it harder on the small programs.Oh well, i don't have to worry about it any longer.
Mc Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 ASA 23U 2009 Nationals had 9 teams and was held in Virginia. A California team won it. The other 8 teams were all pretty much local (Va, Pa, Md).Didn't see any tournaments listed on VTD or eteamz for 23U.
