Bobcat55 Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Does homecoming help or hinder the home team? Does being scheduled for another teams homecoming fire up the visiting team?
setxasfan Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Hinders. There are too many distractions going on and the kids tend to lose focus.
KFDM COOP Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Yup, that happens alot during Homecoming week
kicker Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 I think it is rather insulting to be scheduled for someone elses homecoming!!! Coop, hasnt someone scheduled us in the recent past for theirs?????
Cat22 Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 OF played WOS last year for homecoming, not by choice though. We were suppose to play Buna, but that was cancelled due to Rita and WOS was the only other home game we could schedule homecoming.

AggiesAreWe Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Actually, I like what Silsbee decided to do a few years ago for their homecoming. They have decided to schedule homecoming for the best home game on the schedule, regardless of the date or what team it is. This year they have WOS as their homecoming and in the last few years they have had the likes of Jasper, Kirbyville, Nederland and Ozen as their homecoming opponents. This is in no way of offending their opponents. They just decided that they wanted their homecoming game to be the best home game on the schedule. To add more excitement to it, and maybe keep the players more focused on their opponent.

We were lucky to even have a season last year much less homecoming!! Im just talking in general(Silsbee's idea would be an exception)
whsalum Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Warren scheduled E/C this year.I know their not offended.I think it makes both teams play harder. It's up to the coach to keep the kids focused.
Bigdog Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Ned has Central for homecoming this year.
KFDM COOP Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 That will probably be our game of the week next week.
SETXsports Broadcaster Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 hey Coop didnt you have to stand up when they announced the class of '54 last year at ya'll homecoming  that was nice of them
jmarc77657 Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Yeah, Lumberton is playing at Daytons homecomming. I am not sure if this is an advantage or a disadvantage.
PHS Wildcats Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Rusk has Palestine as their Homecoming
BHS06 Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Homecoming can be a distraction when it is your Homecoming. It can also be something to get fired up about when you are someone elses homecoming. Getting picked as someone elses homecoming can be a spit in the face and that can be exactly what a team needs for motivation. Last year Buna played homecoming in Silsbee because the hurricane tore up the stadium so it felt just like another road game.

Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted September 30, 2006 Report Posted September 30, 2006 Just ask Pearland...lol they got trounced by Clear Lake tonight after knocking off state ranked LM last week..

Guest Luv Ya Blue Posted October 4, 2006 Report Posted October 4, 2006 I hated Homecoming week, it was just to much with sports and all. I've seen teams struggle that week because of it.
NewIndian Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 We had Ozen for ours and we won!!!, also what was good was that we had the members of the 1955 state championship team at the game.
KFDM COOP Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Any more thoughts on if Homecomings can be distractions?
Guest A-TOWN Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Last year Silsbee was pick to win by 28 pts or more over Orangefield and it was Orangefield's Homecoming, Silsbee ended up winning by a TD that let you know the home team is pump up and ready to play some football, Homecoming is scary towards the Visiting team
Bucster Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 EC has the Rice Festival to contend with. I think it's a greater distraction for the players than homecoming.
