dav-joel Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Back in 70,71 at HF, it seemed like every road game was somebody's homecoming.Coach Koening was not happy, and called it an insult to be everybody's Homecoming. This changed over the next several years and didn't get to see those perty homecoming queens anymore. Coach K called it Respect.
Guest WBFan09 Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Last year we had Kingwood scheduled for Homecoming...all the stuff was going on and our guys beat Kingwood for the first time in school history...i dont know whether it helps or hurts more
bigd92 Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Homecoming is nice for girls(being chosen Queen) in all but for the team I see it as a major distraction.Being chosen as the other teams opponent on their homecoming usually fires up the team and sometimes spoils their night. BTW Halftime takes too long on Homecoming night.
the wise one Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 i know back when i played when it was our homecoming our team got more fired up and more focused because you know how embarrising it is to lose your homecoming because on homecoming usually the entire town is there
stangchain Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Actually, I like what Silsbee decided to do a few years ago for their homecoming. They have decided to schedule homecoming for the best home game on the schedule, regardless of the date or what team it is. This year they have WOS as their homecoming and in the last few years they have had the likes of Jasper, Kirbyville, Nederland and Ozen as their homecoming opponents. This is in no way of offending their opponents. They just decided that they wanted their homecoming game to be the best home game on the schedule. To add more excitement to it, and maybe keep the players more focused on their opponent. Not trying to dampen the subject, but you need to check your tickets....I show WOS & Silsbee playing in Orange!!!
24 over par Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 giant distraction wish they would have it during basketball season
jmspears3 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Just ask Pearland...lol  they got trounced by Clear Lake tonight after knocking off state ranked LM last week..LaMarque beat Pearland last week 6-3
WHFAN Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 WH played Kountze on their homecoming the longer halftime helped us being short on players, but i believe it was a distraction for Ktze.Back in my day the coach didnt allow players to be escorts for the HC court some coaches do though
NedDog Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I always thought Homecoming was an event started by flower & gift shops to increase sales.Â
lsu_fan_07 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 no offense but i thought it was funny when jasper picked kville in 04-05 for their homecomin and they lost 42-20...soand in the 05-06 year..kville was chosen for about 3 homecomings...of course we all bea them again..kville never lost a homecoming game while i was in highschool...sothe other teams get big headed and think that since its their homecoming they can beat us but obviouslly they were wrong..and kville has made sure to win their homecomin for the beneift of the seniors... go cats!!
AggiesAreWe Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Not trying to dampen the subject, but you need to check your tickets....I show WOS & Silsbee playing in Orange!!!Yea, and you need to check the date on my post. This thread was from last year. You can see plain as day that my post was posted on Sept. 28, 2006. WOS played in Silsbee last year for Silsbee's homecoming.

In that same year, Silsbee had Kirbyville as the Tiger's homecoming, and Silsbee destroyed the mildcats 41-14. It wasn't even that close.
BMTSoulja1 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Last year, Nederland scheduled us for their homecoming and got ran out the stadium 63-24. The anouncers were like ' you're supposed to schedule the weakest team on your schedule on homecoming. I want to know who's idea it was to schedule Central?' Priceless!
1KatKiller Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Few things in life I dislike more than Homecoming. All the distractions and the parades and Pep Rally skits. The kids are more interested in what's going on after the game than playing the game. Can't be over fast enough for me.
Bucster Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Back in my day the coach didnt allow players to be escorts for the HC court some coaches do thoughBeing a homecoming queen escort was one of the perks reserved for the team captains when I played. Aaaaah ....... nothing like kissing a homecoming queen. *sigh* The good old days. ;D
SETXsports Broadcaster Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Yea, and you need to check the date on my post. This thread was from last year. You can see plain as day that my post was posted on Sept. 28, 2006. WOS played in Silsbee last year for Silsbee's homecoming.
WH-BackInThaDay Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 It seems to be a little of both. The stands are always a lot more full during homecoming and a little extra motivation coming from a larger, louder crowd (usually with home fans on the visitor side, too). But the distractions cannot be overlooked. Its all hype during the week and usually it is few of the starters that escort the girls, so they are taken out of a lot of the halftime speaches and adjustments.I'm thinking the glitter of homecoming is a little more of a distraction than a helper, but that's TX high school football. Homecoming is a rich tradition in my opinion, and important part of celebrating your school's past and presence. That being said, WH-Huntington tonight at West Hardin's homecoming. Go Oilers!!
lsu_fan_07 Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 In that same year, Silsbee had Kirbyville as the Tiger's homecoming, and Silsbee destroyed the mildcats 41-14. It wasn't even that close.ok so i forgot about silsbee...but too bad yall cheated that game...so it shouldnt have counted...yall cheat at every game that we play yall in...like girls bball too!!
wizdiz Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 I'M FROM NORTH TEXAS AND WHEN I WAS A SENIOR OUR TEAM WAS SO BAD WE PLAYED IN 7 HOMECOMING GAMES. WE HAD OUR OWN AND WE HAD 6 ROAD GAMES THAT YEAR AND EVERYONE WAS A HOMECOMING GAME. MADE FOR A LONG SEASON.Â
UKCats Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 Yeah we have half the town there for the game and all that other crap, but they are just there to see the HC queen candidates. After half time they all leave.Â
AggiesAreWe Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 ok so i forgot about silsbee...but too bad yall cheated that game...so it shouldnt have counted...yall cheat at every game that we play yall in...like girls bball too!!Man, talk about a whinner. :'(
SPORTSMAN Posted September 28, 2007 Report Posted September 28, 2007 In the past Kountze has probability set a record on the team of choise for homecoming this may change next year. The future is in the Lions hands.Good luck Boys.
