Spurger played extremely sloppy, and although they couldnt handle the press and had way to many turnovers. This was a good game for the pirates it will help them mature. I pick them to win their district and the rest is up to them.
How can players come out of football two days ago and press the whole game? I guess if you are an athlete your an athlete......most dont have their legs this early.
It was sloppy for the pirates but from what I seen it was mostly unforced TO.IMOP they handle the press pretty well. The boys played tight like they was playing in there first playoff game.Just not as loose as Im used to seeing.
No-look you could tell cleveland was tired right before half but recovery time was quick ;)

Spurger just had no answer to Ced Reed, the '6"6 260 lb post. Reed with 34 points and 15 rebounds was the catalyst while Ross hit 3 three pointers late in the 3rd quarter to break the game open. IMO, Spurger wasn't agressive enough against the press. Also, it doesn't help when one team plays 9 players compared to just 5. Spurger has a very good starting 5 but they have zero depth.

As for Cleveland, their starting 5 are very good but their bench is nothing to brag about. Talent falls off pretty quickly from their starters to their reserves.

Spurger won't see another club like this once district gets here. This will help them get ready for the long haul.I was afraid depth may be a problem for the pirates. It's a crying shame to have a club as good as Cleveland and have zero fan base.

I beg to differ, whsalum. I say Spurger will face a better team than Cleveland on Jan. 12, game before district starts. That's when the Silsbee Tigers will come to town to play the Pirates. ;) ;D

I think that was the very first time that I have attended a basketball game where one of the teams had ZERO fans. Zilch, nada, big goose egg. I would have thought at least 4 or 5 Cleveland folks would have shown, but never expected for them to have ZERO fans at any game.
Zero??? For real? Maybe fans are road weary from football playoffs, doesn't sound like the kids were affected much, thats one heck of a group.
Re read the post AAW.It says once district gets here,Last time I checked Silsbee wasn't in Spurgers district.I watched Cleveland a couple of times last year and while they were young they have all the tools, especially the big kid on the block,he is going to be a player to watch as he matures.

No offense to Spurger, but what in the world does Cleveland or Silsbee gain from playing them?

Spurger played Cleavland last year right at the end of football season and was winning most of the game until the end and ended up only losing by 8. I think it teaches teams like hj and silsbee to respect their opponents no matter who they are.

I sure hope the best of Spurger this year. I just hope that they all stay healthy this year. It would be a shame for them to loose one of there starters like last year. Does not sound like they have any help after the starting 5. That could really hurt them. If they stay healthily all year they should go for a good run in the playoffs this year.
Most likely not a whole lot gained execpt closing out on shooters, but I think
it is more for spurgers benifit than anything else.I for one will think the coaches from silsbee and
cleveland for taken a game with a small school to help them look at what needs to be worked on
and be a force against teams their on size.

    • That’s a heck of a take there. If you could just remove Kountze’s top 6-7 players, you got them.
    • naw, maaaaybe 7, definitely not 8 deep.  today im avoiding sitting by #10s parents, had to move away yesterday.   "put my son back in jub, put my son back in"  and then crying on every little touch of someone.    lets ball out today ktz!
    • Very close game until the 2nd half (mostly the 4th) when Orangefield came unraveled. Worse defensive effort I have seen out of the Bobcats in three years. This team has to get back on D and quit getting beat over the top when pressing. Offensively, non ball handlers continually turn it over and their shot selection is poor. Basic basketball, such as: defensive hustle, boxing out, and taking care of the basketball are the areas the Bobcats need to work on most. Whitmire will get them on point, but he shouldn't have to coach effort at the Varsity Level.  We'll be at McNeese this Friday night at 6pm.
    • I don’t benefit from it, that’s not my area.  But the average cost to imprison someone is around $15k per year (on average in the US) and capital cases cost somewhere between $1.5-$3M with over half being overturned or reduced to life in prison anyway.  These numbers may be inflated since the last report I read but I’m sure it would be on both sides and higher on the DP side if anything. So what’s the point?  We feel better because we got to return the favor on someone (hopefully) who committed a heinous crime?  And I don’t know I can say we have “complicated” it. Which appeal should we cut out?  Our justice system has a pecking order and we have higher courts for a reason. When we are about to impose the ultimate judgment, should we cut steps that other cases have to save a buck?  Or do we not pay for an indigent person’s experts at the trial court level because it’s too expensive? Or do we just lock them up and throw away the key (unless we later find out they weren’t actually guilty, in which case we have a key and a life we haven’t unjustly ended) and save a ton of money?  Seems to me to be an obvious solution but I’m more of a pragmatist.
    • 1 thing for certain. Coach Earned 3 more years to figure it out lol
