Bears cruise past Cardinals. 76-39

BRIDGE CITY — Using a first-quarter explosion, Little Cypress-Mauriceville never looked back as the Bears cruised to a 76-39 victory over the Bridge City Cardinals at Cardinal Gym Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears (3-0) went on a 21-6 tear in the first period and a 20-8 spurt in the second quarter to pull away from the Cardinals (1-3).

Post Preston Armstrong and guard Cameron Johnson spearheaded a very balanced LC-M attack.

Armstrong notched 15 points and eight rebounds while Johnson nailed three three-pointers on his way to 15 points and five boards.

Guard Aldric Jones totaled 10 points and swiped six steals. Hunter Gonzales scored eight points and Johnny Epps had seven points. Post Jordan Wells had six points and six rebounds and Travis Mallett had six boards.

Nate McAnelly had a nice double-double for the Cardinals, scoring 16 points while yanking down 12 rebounds. Guard Johnathan Peterson had 10 points and five boards and William Veillon added seven points.

Armstrong scored six points and Johnson five to spark the Bears in the first period and LC-M forced the Cardinals into eight turnovers.

Seven different Bears put points on the board in the second quarter to increase the margin to 41-14 at intermission.

LC-M increased its cushion to 57-24 at the end of the third. McAnelly had 11 of his points after intermission for the Cardinals while Peterson had eight of his in the second half.

The Bears finished with a 41-25 rebounding edge.

Bridge City finished with 20 turnovers while LC-M had 11.

LC-M was just 10-of-20 from the free-throw line while the Cardinals were a solid 17-of-23.

Both teams return to action Dec. 1 when the Bears host Hamshire-Fannett and the Cardinals travel to Winnie to face East Chambers.
