Former Seahawk earns post-season college volleyball honors

Christina Jaques, a two-year member of the Lamar State College-Port Arthur softball team, was one of two Belhaven College volleyball team members recently named to the 2009 All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Team.

Jaques, a junior outside hitter from Bridge City, led the Blazers in kills with 381 and total blocks with 92. She averaged 2.74 kills per set during the season and posted a 20.9 hitting percentage.

Jaques ranked fourth in the GCAC in kills per set, third in total kills and led the conference in total blocks.

Belhaven finished the season at 18-20 overall and made it to the GCAC Tournament semi-finals before losing to the University of Mobile, the eventual tournament winner.

Jaques, a three-sport high school standout, played softball at Lamar State in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. She holds 14 Seahawk season and eight career records.

This past spring, Jaques signed a scholarship letter with Belhaven College to play volleyball and softball. She will be on the on the Blazer softball team this spring.
